Minting and Slaves

When did the use of slaves to mint coins stop? I'm writing a research paper on the making of Roman coins and this fact has eluded me for a while.

I think you are asking "when did the ancients stop using slaves as mint workers?" Logic says that the practice ended whenever slavery did in those cultures.

I'm sure that no permanent record was made to the effect that

 

Did the US mints in the pre-Civil War south use slaves?

(Dahlongela, Charlotte, New Orleans)

 

The question is about making Roman coins and is posted in the World & Ancient forum. Pretty dumb reference, and place to put the question if it's about pre-Civil War US coinage.

 

Almost all physical labor in ancient Rome was done by slaves.

Also in the old south.

I know that I will probably get banned from this site, but I really can't see why this person is allowed to be on this site either. This isn't the first time he has posted dis-respectful and sarcastic comments. I just can't believe they let him post comments, let alone be a MODERATOR! Must have some pretty LOW standards.

 

Maybe if there is another "moderator" looking at this post, they can explain WHY this person is a "moderator"??? And why he is even permitted to post on this site???? This IS NOT the first time he has done this either. This person is like the kid who owns the ball, so you MUST allow him to play!

was 'dumb', but you need to re-read it, I think the way it was written sounded worse
than what was intended, sarcastic, yes, but not dis-respectful,

Sounds more like he's saying that IF he (hamman88) was asking about pre-Civil War US coinage,
the reference to 'Roman coins' under the section for 'World & Ancient Coins' would be DUMB.
