I just signed up for a trial at Whitman.com. I think at the end of my 14 day trial I am going to pay the $100 for the year subscription. Is this worth the money? How many of you are members? I don't have a lot of money to throw around but this website seems really nice. So.. Is it worth it or not? It seems really handy for cataloging a collection and researching coins. Do they have a mobile app? Thank you for any info you can provide.
Access to their coin prices, online collection keeping, and honestly.. I think that's it.. I should could probably spend less than $100 on a redbook and some cataloging software huh?
I have no idea what you are talking about. I do have to ask, though, isn't that information available on their web site?
It seems you're paying a lot for things that you can get free online with a little bit of work. Chris
That's what I thought. I tried to look up a price on their sight and it said I had to sign in to do that. Then it said I had to pay to have an account. I must have done something wrong. I will cancel the account
Keep in mind that Whitman publishes the Red Book. The price guides in the Red Book are not the best reference. What does this tell you about the Whitman price guides? Chris
I love syllogisms... Whitman publishes the Red Book. Price guides in the Red Book are not the best reference. Therefore, Whitman price guides are Red?
You would probably be better off with a sub. to Numismatic News for a price guide, which is updated regularly. In addition I believe there is a free software program or two on CNET.com for cataloging your collection. They have freeware and shareware . Also try TUCOWS for freeware and shareware programs.
Heck, Numismaster suites me just fine. All I need is a ballpark figure, not a dead on (precision) strike......
I signed up with Whitman for their FREE email notices of discounts on their products. Latest one was Spend $20 or more & get FREE shipping.
And that's why I quit buying the Red Book every year, now to try and get rid of the ones I do have, oh geez.... I stick with either sold listings on Ebay, NN Magazine, or trusted people I kno.
There are too many bidiots on FleaBay, so that's not a good source. Magazines like NN & CW are not good because "honest" price guides would list lower prices than their advertisers. You'd be better off using CDN Greysheet or Heritage completed auctions. Chris
I stay away from Greysheet, don't bother looking at that. Have seen a few dealers doing that too recently, looking at Ebay or NN Mag.
I can almost bet that if you asked a dealer what they would pay for a particular certified coin, they would refer to the CDN for the price. Chris
Not true, I did that a few times at the last 2 shows just to see who would choose what, most went to Ebay
