Great posts guys! Hopefully this tread can serve as a kind of reference to those that want good ancients/medieval related material to read. There are a couple more books+related coins I will post when I have sufficient time.

@FitzNigel... I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but these coins appear to be inauthentic :( . Fortunately, they are all easily replaced with genuine ancient coins, since they all readily available types.

I have to agree, at least regarding the first two coins. I do not enough about medieval coins to say one way or another, but if the others are fake I would suggest doing some research on the last coin as well.

The Greeks I inherited - the Richard coin I purchased myself and know is authentic. TIF, are you suspecting the Caesar coin is a fake?

I'm not sure TIF is suggesting the 'Caesar' coin is a possible fake---and I can't see enough to even venture an 'educated guess' myself---but a 'rule of them is to be suspicious of others in view of the company they keep---one fake coin often turns out to be one among many...

I quoted her statement, so she will note that 'alert' and perhaps respond back to this thread as soon as possible...

EDIT: HAH!! I corrected my misspelling:smug:...and I'm not illiterate, I just can't read or write and depend on the kindness of others to process my mail and posts etc.--Looking for a second job Steve ??? ---JP for MZ--- (See, my private secretary's initials:rolleyes:)

Unfortunately, I think TIF said that she had to step-out for a bit ... but no worries, for I'm pretty sure that she said Bing would be covering all of her emergency-calls?

    Love, TIF's Secretary

Oh, and you spelled "alert" incorrectly (yah, TIF refuses to deal with illiterates)

    ;)

I'm not sure what to make of the purported JC denarius. Core of a fouree?

I try very hard to refrain from Grammar Naziism but it is sometimes difficult :D. There/they're/their, your/you're (ARGH!!), than/then, etc.

Ultimately though this is a coin forum, not a grammar forum :). I certainly make mistakes now and then.

Regardless, it's not a genuine Julius Caesar denarius. Perhaps the core of a fouree. Perhaps another fake.

Judging from your immaculately organized coin collection, I really should hire you to organize my coins (and life)!

In case anyone reading this thread hasn't seen Steve's coin organization system:

Not exactly what one would have predicted from our mayhem-loving Steve-O, is it? A closet obsessive-compulsive, apparently. :D (I'm just jealous)
