Friends, here I found a War Nickel out of Roll. Well, I hope its a legitimate Error. Atleast I found some silver. I also see a light S mint mark on the side of the Building. As I uploaded the pic I noticed it being there. The area where US mint put mint marks on normaly. There is some mild doubling front and back,as well. There is sometype of print within that big Gash as well. On the top left hand corner of the Reverse view. Appreciate, your vote on the coin as a Error coin. God Willing we have Winner,Amen! God Bless Beck PS: I took some very quick pic of the find/Treausre If you need more images Please let me know.
First, it is 56% copper. Second, pure copper will not do it. The "woody" affect is due to improperly mixed alloy and pure copper is not an alloy. Thus cannot be "improperly mixed". So we have coin made from an alloy that can be "improperly mixed", just why can it not be considered a "woody"? And, if you want to be technical, it is even a copper alloy.
I agree, improper alloy mix. Also lamination error on both reverse and obverse. It's pretty cool because you can see that the lamination error is due to the improper alloy mix. You can see the that a majority of the lamination lines run the same directions that the toning within the "wood grain" does. The lamination on the obverse is at Jefferson's shoulder.
I thought that too, looks like a lamination. Does it demand a premium? I am not sure, depends on how likely it was to occur. The older the coin, the more likely errors were to occur.
I am still trying to find the "S" mint mark ( I also see a light S mint mark on the side of the Building) nothing on my photos
Before I upload any more pic about the 1945 P War Nickel. This is what I did. I gave it a powerfull hot pressure wash (directly) to get all the dirt and grime off ...for a clearner pic. Then a friend of mine wanted to look at it and he began to peel off the back short part sticking up ( and I suddenly stopped him) from dong that. I had looked away for a split second. (But) it might be that he helped discover something extra NEW to me. There is Print type effects ( UNITED under UNITED) . I jumped for joy since I never excepted to see something like that.... I ask, if this normal for Nickel of that Era? Also the one of the pic I too show Doubling in Reverse as well. This type of doubling is not easy for the human eye to detect but the at 3 Mega Pixel and perfect Angel the Nikkon well pic it, and then when one ZOOM's in it acts like a MicroScope and enlarges what was captured. Is this a DDR? My camera was steady when I took the pic. Is this a RPM with DDR?.. God Bless Beck PS: How does one become a supporter of CoinTalk?
It was just a bit.I did not do it...a friend who did not know much about coins etc. Let closeup this topic. Its a cool find. Thanks for your view on the coin.
