Is there any treatments that remove scratches from a PCGS holder?

I just got a coin in the mail (ebay) I like the coin but the holder is scratched. I know I can send it back ... but before I do that are there any scratch removal creams that work?

I also know I can send it to PCGS for reholdering (anyone know what that costs?)

It might be easier just to send the coin back tho. It's sort of a common gold coin (nothing terribly special).

    Any thoughts are welcome.

PlastX should do the trick. You can get it fairly cheap on the car aisle at walmart. Ive used it on many of mine and it's done wonders.

You can also polish out the scratch with polishing compound and if it creates a haze finish it off with jewelers rouge, did that when repairing aircraft windshields. When you are finished with the jewelers rouge it will be crystal clear.

slab-renew on the bay for about $15 works very well even for divots. I think it is regular ol polishing compound... I used to use jewelers rouge but got tired of the red getting on everything. Every slab that comes thru the door gets polished first, then imaged.

Off on a tangent.... The poor slab design that facilitates the scratching - the way HA and TT handle them.... and the plastic itself is just another indication of how amateurish I think PCGS is when it comes down to figuring out simple stuff.

How they can put coins worth tens of hundreds of thousands of dollars in such sub-standard cheap easy to scratch material just makes me shake my head in disbelief. /rant

Had a demo @ coin club Thursday night.

The presenter - a well known PNW high-end coin dealer - you know the type, "by appointment only" and the cheapest coin listed on his site is $4k...

He uses the Novus and for the final polish (PCGS on;y, NGC's plastic is too soft) uses a hand tool with the fabric buffing wheel - side by side with almost no pressure.

He started by scratching up a slab on the concrete patio... at the end, only one really deep scratch remained.

The PlastX is also recomended, but remember it leaves a slightly oily residue (that's what fills the scratches to make them invisible)
