So, I scored twice at today's auction ... I paid through the nostrils for one of my coins, but I think I did pretty well for this sweet chick-coin?!! Initial estimate was $100 ... but I scored it for $65 (I did a search and didn't find too many better deals) Happy, happy, happy!! OK Steve, I went and bought a coin of Faustina II, just to post it in your thread. I'm glad I looked though, because this coin gives me three firsts. My first coin of Faustina Junior, a portrait of Zeus-ammon, who was the patron god of the Roman legion in Syria, and it's my first coin of the Gadara mint. You all know how much I'm drawn to Levantine coins. Syria, Decapolis, Gadara. Faustina II, wife of Marcus Aurelius. Augusta, 147-175 AD. AE 20mm (7.89 gm, 12h). Dated CY 225. 161/2 AD. Spijkerman 49 (same dies)
I love the posts!!!!---Hell I always love the posts, I'm an ancient coin addict !!! LOL Steve, yours has a reverse that I can't recall seeing before and it's a gorgeous coin!! My Faustina Juniors/(II)MINOR: A denarius with a 'FECVNDITAS' reverse; and two worn sestertius I'm not 100% sure about:

swish!! => nuthin' but net!! Yah, I lucked-out on this baby ... honestly, I feared that I was gonna be outbid on my sweet Caracalla coin, so I gambled and put-out a bid on this fine Faustina!! ... oh, but please tell her that she was my first pick (she is so fricken insecure, know what I mean?) ... yah, daughter of A-Pius and wife of creepy cousin Marcus Aurelius (*awkward*)
I do prefer the one you paid through the nostrils for, but this one is nice too. I like those flow lines and the high-fiving little guys on the reverse! My Faustina Jr may have been before the kids came along...
$65 for the Puppet Show reverse. Can't go wrong with that! Congrats Steve. It feels good to pay 1/4 what it really worth. Take it in. Its amazing what we can find on the bottom. Yum, yum,yum...
I like the OP denarius quite a bit mostly because of the sharp reverse detail. I've never been a fan of Faustina's face but this one is not as bad as many so it is the kind of coin I might have bought for $65. I do not have the type. My favorite Faustina is the posthumous peacock denarius which cost me $70 and is lower grade than yours. Of course, it does have an animal and some people like animals so we have to pay more for them. I also like this sestertius from the earlier period as first daughter. The OP sestertius is less appealing but you knew that.
