So very sad. It only took Cuba 50 years to accomplish their goal. Obama pretty much gave them everything and we got nada. I have been to Cuba...nothing any more special than other Caribbean countries. They are beautiful and ALL have their pitfalls. I won’t be visiting Cuba anytime soon. I personally think something is not right with this sudden open arms policy. I do agree with those that say that the previous agenda did not work. I would practice caution and patience. JMHO.

The US has sent people to rebuild the sugar cane industry . What will be next ?

After the sugar cane is producing? Probably rum and ethanol.

Seriously though, Cuba is a big potential market for US exports & a cheap source of agricultural products. The embargo caused a LOT of pain on the island, but certainly didn't do us any favors either. Not to get too much into politics though...

I've got a moderate Cuban selection in my world coin binder. A lot of the pre-1960's coins are in various collections, and even some of the modern trade pesos end up in US dealer junk bins (presumably from European tourists bringing them home in pocket change).

Most of the older cars down there now have replacement parts from Russia. My neighbor is in the state dept and in Havana now. He befriended a few locals to take pictures of their cars. He had a shot of a 57 283 Chevy with a single barrel carb. With CCCP stamped on the body.
How it works the government owns all the cars. You share a car between family . If one member gets in trouble you loose the car.

Yup but the one shot we had to visit the island was poo pooed buy the Cubans. It was 15 years ago the wife and I had an invite to visit. My neighbor is in the state dept. And invited us down as guest.
We had all our ducks in a row ,a license from the state dept. We had one other hurdle to jump the interview at the Swiss embassy in DC at the Cuban interest second.
Since the US and Cuba does not have formal embassies they have what's called an interest section at the Swiss embassy . Long story short would not give me a visa or Master card...j/K said I was CIA!
So by the time my people got things worked out ... we had booked a cruise and paid cash. That said no Havana daydreaming . ...but I did moon them from the ships rail as we sailed by.... :)

So were you CIA? C'mon, just between us. There's no one else reading this.
