This contest is going to end Saturday next week. In other words, the 14th of April. Everybody has to make an essay AT LEAST 3 PARAGRAPHS LONG. You can write it on a pet you have had, your most challenging expierence, about a holiday that stood out to you once, OR your roll model. Make sure your essay is good with punctuation and spelling. The prize will be a mystery coin. Everybody, if you want to write about a different topic pm me about it. I will think about everybody's essay and pick the winner....not by hat but by my choice.
    -Good luck,
    Savannah
I was thinking you can also send in a picture of a Short FEMALE haircut I might like. Which ever one I choose they can win another coin.

Since everyone else went for the hairstyle - I'll take on the original contest:

My Role Model (in Three Paragraphs)

When I was young, I looked up to my father. He was the biggest, strongest, smartest man I knew. I didn't know many, but I knew him, and I wanted to emulate that and be like him. He spent whatever time he could with us, he watched all our concerts, he coached my baseball and basketball teams, even though he worked long days. I always thought that when I grew up I'd just do what he did, because that's what a dad did.

As I got older, I realized that my father and I were very different. He was more conservative, I'm more liberal. He may have the wisdom of years, but lacks the "vision" of youth. I started to notice that he wasn't perfect, he had flaws, he was human. Yet, he was still my father. He was still someone I wanted to be like when I grew up, even if I had no interest in his line of work. Even if I was never good at the things he excelled in, and I was good at things he couldn't do. My opinion of him didn't change, just my perspective.

Now, I am a father myself. I see the kinds of things that my father must have gone through when I was younger. We couldn't be more different, yet we are so much alike. I see the sacrifices he made for our family, and I see the enjoyment he got out of it. He doesn't regret a day of his life, and I don't either. I can only hope to be half the father he was, yet he tells me I'm that and more. No matter how old I get, my father is still my role model. And my best friend.

    :)

    Tried something!

    Hello! :)

I though I might write something about a pet I've had when I was young... It was a very lovely dog!

I chose to use he/she when talking of close pets. "It" appeared to me as a too distant word. Note that english is not my mother tongue, but I tried to make this fact as subtle as possible! :) The worst thing should be my verb tenses.

At that time, we lived in the countryside, where we had no neighbours before half a mile from any side. We loved having pets. Dogs were a security factor, among other things, since even if we were relatively far in the woods, our house was just by a road between two villages, and there was a high enough frequency of robberies around. We first had Poilue (name that we could translate in english as "Hairy"), an average size female Chow Chow (now you can see where the name came from). She was a very friendly dog. Probably too friendly to consider it a security factor.

Then another dog came from we never knew where, and probably did you know what with Poilue, since on December 3, probably in 1989, Rex was born! I will always remember that day, because I've been the first to see the baby dogs as I was leaving for school. There were seven little black puppies! One was frozen hard, it was cold outside. My father put him under the stove and he came back! We all think it was Rex, but we are not sure about that.

We chose to keep this one because he was the strongest among the puppies. The others were given to a veterinary, and the mother, Poilue, to another family who had many young children to play with. He was not much more than six inches high and he was already growling at us, showing his strong character. He was even already able to push the bricks we made a pen with. So well that one evening (before we gave Poilue), he escaped and followed Poilue for a ride in about eighteen inches of snow in the woods. She probably never knew he was following her, since he only arrived home in the morning of the following day. He jumped from footstep to footstep of his mother all the way until he arrived back at home. Then he grew up, became a quite big and strong dog, able to hunt as a wolf, but also very loving with us. A good hunter! Though he had many porcupine spines running through his head during some years... He used to drag my brother and me on the snow, pulling us by our snow pants. He was always there for us. Even when he was far in the woods, hunting for his dinner, we only had to whistle and call his name and we could hear him coming as fast as he could in the forest. At this time we had a very good security guard! We always knew when a car just slowed while passing by our house. Most people could not get out of their cars alone. He was not a monster, just taking his job seriously, and physically impressive.

Then came the day when my parents were bored of this region. We went there because of my father's job, and there was nothing much there for us. So we went back to the city we first came from. We therefore had to give Rex away. He went to the veterinary too, finally. You don't know what hole it leaves in your heart before it happens to you! The fact that I was quite young probably didn't help either. I wish I have another dog someday!

I managed to find some pictures, not what I hoped, but well... here they are :

    [IMG] [IMG]

On the first you can see my mother and the little puppies, some days after their birth... On the second one you can see Rex, a little girl my mother was taking care of and I, a very long time ago! (Relatively to my age.) You can click to better see some details!

    Thanks for the opportunity! :)

    Max
