Rolled up $150 in change at the office from our "snack" bar. Mostly quarters but I did manage to pull out:
    1. A 1942 and a 1940 wheatie
    2. A 5 Baht Thai Coin (size of a dime)
    3. An Australian 5 cent coin 1986 I think
    4. 1964 dime

Not valuable but interesting to say the least.

Much better today - Saturday the 14th! I did a $25 box of pennies - 11 wheats - (notables - 1918, 1934, 1939 plains all G or better). A 1970 S high 7 small date about MS 60 I'd say - red - and an 1896 Indian Head!!! That's my 4th Indian Head penny this year, from that same bank. I hate to say though the Indian head is quite corroded. I must get more pennies from that bank! lol Much better than last night! :) I have one more box left - I'll save it for tomorrow. I'll let you guys know what I find in that one :)

Oh - I also forgot - I found a 1990 D broadstrike (my first broadstrike find!) and a 1950 I think it's a Dutch 5 pfennig - The coin is almost green in color. I guess that was one heck of a box now that I look at what I found! I haven't found a lot all winter so this makes up for it.

Do you guys know why friday the 13th is considered unlucky???
On Friday October 13th, 1307, Pope Clement V, and King Phillip of France had all of the member of the order of the Knights Templar rounded up, tortured, and burned at the stake for herasy (sp?). Thousands of men all over Europe died horrible deaths. The date has been unlucky ever since.

Well - my final $25 box of pennies yielded a mere 8 common wheats. :) Oh well - overall it wasn't a bad weekend of cherry picking. I'll cash in during the week and start all over again next Friday.

You have found a 5 Pfennig from West Germany. It says 'BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUSTCHELAND' (Federal Republic of Germany) & has an oak leaf on the obverse.

That's exactly what it says - Good detective work Aidan! Any idea if it's worth anything?? Amazing how I ended up with it. However, it's not the first foreign piece I've gotten for a penny :) lol

Esky,it's worth just under a $1.The Deutsch Mark is no longer in circulation,as it has been replaced by the Euro since 2002.

Wow, that is interesting. Thought it was just a superstition someone made up. Thanks for the trivia. :thumb:
Nice finds Esky! Not a bad box, 8 more wheats than you had before you searched it. Good luck on the next rounds. :thumb:

It is just one of the so called explanations for the date and what goes along with it. As with most things like this, there is no definitive answer as to the origin of the belief.

hmmm... ok, I guess that was just a guess about why its unlucky. I've always thought it made sense. I mean, the superstition must come from somehwere.
