I understand the Grey Sheet is for dealers only. Is that true?

Some dealers. I have never owned a grey sheet.

I just didn't want someone to say I've stolen their quote
Mostly yes. You can buy them from dealers and some people who manage to get their hands on them. I have always wanted to buy one but haven't done so yet. If you do get your hands on one, it is my understanding that you NEVER show it to a dealer you want to buy from. For some reason, they find it very insulting to know how much they generally should've paid for their coin. Just browse it for the coins you're going after while in the bathroom, then tuck it away. I personally do not see anything wrong with having one, but my livelihood doesn't come from selling coins...

Yes and no. Its kind of expensive, but its more up to date than any other source. Just go to their web site and place an order. You will probably have no problem.

Of course, as more and more buyers/collectors become owners and users of the GraySheet it will eventually become the retail price.
Everyone wants the best price. Just the way it is. Its funny how some people want the item for what a dealer paid, and often for less. And some even expect it. Think they deserve it. Even though dealers have all the overhead. A lot of overhead if they have a storefront business. Travel, lodging, gas, food and table cost if they do weekend shows. I guess if we were dealers we would probably better understand. I have been in a retail business in times past, and I made a profit on most things I sold. I also learned to move dead merchandise on out and reinvest in a better selling item.

So, getting into the coin business and making a little money is not hard if you are willing to educate yourself and put up with those who want it at your cost.

When I used to set up at shows I'll show the potential customer the greysheet, b/c IMO no big deal, nothing to hide.

Expensive? Nah. The monthly plan is pretty reasonable, and buying an issue every couple months is even more reasonably priced. I'd argue that's about all a collector needs out of the Greysheet.

And, of course, for a dealer, as a cost of doing business, the Greysheet is well worth the price.

It was intended to be for dealers but anyone can buy it. Unfortunately a lot of collectors seem to feel that if they have a greysheet, they should be able to buy from dealers at dealer wholesale prices. It doesn't work that way.

Unfortunately, and many dealers don't seem to understand this, but on many generics the prices listed are closer to retail than wholesale IMO. At the same time, some of the better stuff is underpriced. The Greysheet is all over.
