Just checked the mints web site as was going to order some more of these but they are currently unavailable. I'm wondering, with all of the errors being found if they have recalled what they have left for inspection? Or just sold out due to popularity. If the former is true, ten it might not be such a good idea to order more of these. And if the latter is true, finding more errors might not happen again as new dies may be used with tighter quality control. (Talking about the bags of 100 specifically)
The Mint is not going to recall them for such a minor error. The cost of the effort far exceeds their worth. It's more likely that reports of these (minor) errors has caused a run on the supply. Chris
I still can't figure where that crazy pump handle error came to be anymore than I can figure how the extra fingers on the 2009P FY Lincoln cents, under the book, came to be. Way out of place as they are.
That WDDR-004 pump handle could be big. Depends how many are ultimately found and how popular they are.
Sure, the lion's share of them are probably just hitting the market - that would be the best time to buy them. All depends how long the one die that produced them was in service. Anyone know how many quarters are produced from a die if it lasts as long as possible?
They have been unavailable for over 2 weeks. I think someone bought them out due to all the errors being discovered. There seems to be an awful lot of these errors though. Someone on this forum even found WDDR-004 in pocket change, which means the 100 count bags are not the only source. TC
I bought some 004's at the going Ebay rate. There seem to be quite a few of these as one seller is selling as a group 100 of the 004 in one listing, another is selling 40 in one listing. A number of listings for 12 or more in one listing. I followed the 006 skeleton finger and the most listed at one time was 5. There were only a couple of those listings total for 5. No one sold multiples of the Duke Ellington error. So based on that I'd guess there's quite a few out there.
My guess right now is that buying rolls still out there would probably be the best bet as the original dies used for the first batch of errors are already retired?.
Just found 7 WDDR-004's in a P roll from the mint. It was a P roll from the 3 roll P,D,S box, item HM6. These are still available at the mint, so I ordered a couple more.
I just got the latest copy of Numismatic News. They are reporting that more doubled dies have been found. It is beginning to look to me as though every die used was doubled in some way.
Any good new ones? I'm going to go back through that roll, I think I saw something minor going on in some of the other windows, so maybe some of the minor DDR's in there too.
I just found one that has not been reported yet: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/2015-p-homestead-quarter-new-ddrs.264484/ These are so plentiful. It may be that the non DDRs are the most valuable...lol. TC
Less than 2 hours ago, I put 3 boxes/bags on eBay with $199.99 each BIN OBO. They are sold for $180.00 each (not paid for yet). http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-P-HOME...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
