Hi everyone! I was at an auction today and was looking at several lots when I stumbled upon this beauty. The lot was listed as a 1908 $5 Indian. What they missed was the fairly faint but present S mintmark.

Since I have never owned a $5 Indian, I was hoping you all could give me your opinions on grade.

I took a better pic, Rusty. When I saw it, I agreed that it was fuzzy.

Did you get it? Good price? I would agree AU probably. But since the price jump is so big between XF and AU, I would want to pay closer to XF just in case. Nice find!

Yes, I won it for more than I should have paid for a 1908, but less than I should have paid for a 1908-S

With the new pics probably high XF-45 , as now it looks like wear on the wing and leg . But still a nice coin that I'd love to own , nice pick up .

45 is about where I had it pegged. I paid XF money for it.

It also amazes me that the mintmark is so faint, but as I understand, it's not a problem.

XF but definitely one for the grading services. NGC is my personal preference for this type of gold. You never really know and they may surprise you.

While I think that many might submit this coin for grading, after I finished with all of the fees, I might lose any profit that I have in the coin.

I think that this one is going to remain raw. At least while I own it.

Thanks for all of the input everyone!

P.S. This series is probably the most difficult to grade of all U.S. coin series.
