I've taken an interest in British history and coins lately, and I've been trying to compile a comprehensive list of major types and persons on coins from the earliest (Celtic) through Queen Victoria. I couldn't think of a better way to present the information that I've compiled, so here are a series of figures that attempt to summarize things. I was wondering if some of you with expertise in this field would mind taking a look and letting me know if I'm missing any major categories, coin types, and/or persons on coinage minted in the British Isles. Thanks for looking!
Its seems you are looking at England and Britain which is fine with that the major I see gap is the Commonwealth which are pretty neat also perhaps some for Mary and Philip since coin were issued in their names You could add Scotland and Ireland (which had separate coinage pre act of Union) and the Victorian issues of The Channel Islands as these would be the British Isles there may be a few other issuers
Thanks a lot for the reply! I was starting to think that the topic was totally uninteresting and/or my presentation was too gaudy . Ya, I was definitely too broad in describing the pursuit as "British Isles". I would like to incorporate Scotland, Ireland, etc at some point, but researching Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, and England has kept me busy enough for a while. Plus, there are already enough coins on the list to severely stretch my budget for a long while to come. Thanks for bringing the Channel Islands to my attention, I wasn't aware that they'd minted coins. What do you mean by Commonwealth? The countries that minted coins of the Monarchy due to colonization? or something else?
Coins issued by the Commonwealth of England as opposed to the protectorate (the period of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms following the death of St. King Charles is offent call the commonwealth but has two distinct governments the Republican Commonwealth and the Quasi-monarchal Protectorate follow the instrument of Government ) these coins will bear the Cross of st George with the legend Commonwealth of England and the harp of Ireland and cross of St. George with the legend God with us . Protectorate coins will have Cromwell and his arms with his Latin titles and motto .
Ah, interesting... I was not aware of this. I'll be sure to include an example from the Commonwealth, as that'll better flesh out the story Thanks!
