Hi all first I am sorry the pictures are side ways I am not good at using phones computers etc lol. Now if I remember correctly ridge ring happens only on zinc coins. On some of these could it be MAD worn dies and or wear. I am for sure keeping them since they are nice and old like me lol.:nailbiting: nice copper pennies obv.jpg nice copper pennies.jpg

Pennies are my favorite coins for sure. I hope one day I get through them all then I can do coin hunting:happy:

Very nice…all 4 in great shape. Also, all 4 have doubled die varieties…be sure to check for those if you haven’t already…Spark

I have never found one or seen one in person. Could you direct me to the place and I will look closer and refer to Wexler. Thanks so much.

    Wexler is doubleddie.com.

Variety Vista is CONECA/Dr. Wilder at VarietyVista.com.

Wexler lists some that VV does not and vice versa so I end up checking both sites.

@Laurie B - Spark has given you great advice.

I hadn't ever seen a doubled die except in photos until 2021, when my Pappy (RIP) let me check some change and I pulled out a 1972 with a doubled die. I was ecstatic ! Here is a link to my original post. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/evans-first-dd.380585/#post-7558957

And below I have attached images, some with black lines covering the doubling, and some without. I hope this helps you see what to look for. Note that the doubling appears on the same side of each letter.

1972 is a great year for the doubled dies. I check every 1972 cent.

And by the way... I keep all of the red 1960s and 1970s cents I find in change. They don't come up often, so these are definite keepers.

Wow I think I need a strong drink and I am not a drinker. Your pictures I can see as plain as day lol. Would a loupe help me more than my coin microscope? I appreciate all your help and everyone else. Now when I get done with my drink ( just Kidding) I will take one coin at a time:shame:

I am not a drinker either, too young :)

The microscope can be useful, but I would say use a loupe first. 5x is good, but 10x may be useful if you want to continue searching for doubled dies.

My photos were with a digital microscope, so it is a great tool to have.

The problem is that if you look at a coin with the microscope before a loupe, you may end up over-analyzing and begin seeing things that aren't there. We have had many members go crazy because of this.

So yes, I say you should use a loupe. Hobby Lobby has cheap ones in 5x or 10x from Bausch and Lomb, and it works great. Try the loupe first, then if you see something, throw it under the microscope instead of checking everything under the scope. This way you won't be spending too much time on one coin, and your time will be better spent.

Just my two cents... ;) listen if you'd like, but you don't have to.

I just adore your mindset and interest. Do not stop!!

Oh I am listening and I am taking it from you and others. I will get a loupe and look there first then the scope. I will probably have a heart attack if I ever see one lol. I am a jokester so I hope I do not offend anyone just how I am. And you are smart to stay away from drinking i never have and do not intend to now.

Yes. There are numerous forms of doubling on the 1972 cent.

I haven't been collecting Lincolns, but after watching all the fun you folks are having, I think I'm going to pull out all of my coins, mostly Wheat and Memorial.
Thanks for showing us your cent.

Ok I am working on the 1963 D penny first. On the reverse on it looks it is doubled but I did not see anything in Wexler or Variety Vista. I guess it probably is a MD. I am hoping also to hear from Paddyman. 1964 d penny abe.jpg
