Was looking through some of my wheats, and found this. It is different, and want to know, is this an error? Or post? All opinions will be appreciated. Thanks. Here are the pics: Pic 1 Pic 2 Also, what is that in the C? From what I can tell it is raised. Thanks ahead of time. Phoenix
could be a small die crack, gouge or chip (cud) ... very tuff to say, the photos didn't come out to great or show much detail so its very hard to make out..
Okay, I'll try to get more. My camera is on the fritz for some reason, and can't get good pics. But will try. Right now I'm using a scanner, but it is for some reason not showing the stuff around the words. But going to get more pics. Thanks, so far. Phoenix
Got my camera to work better, so here are some nice pics. Pic 5 Larger Pic 5 Thanks ahead of time. Even if it isn't an error, I still think it is cool. But you never know. Phoenix
Yeah that is pretty interesting...I'm no expert but it looks like a die break/crack there...LOL I've now got your fingerprint documented
Yep Yep, thats much better. Still hard for these old eyes to disern for sure, but looks like a very nice die crack, one of the longest and unusual ones I've seen. Very long and moderately wide as well, with some odd shapes and turns. A very nice find! While I don't know what kind of premium it would bring if any, it is very interesting! I'll look it up in my Cherrypickers book tonight and see if I can find anything close or similar! Thanks for sharing your find!!
Awesome! Thanks. At first I thought planchet flaw, then die crack, and then looked more like a die gouge. But might be a diecrack. Thanks for the input, and let me know if there is anything in the cherrypickers book. Anyone else have any thoughts? The funny part is I found it in a roll of wheat cents I bought from a dealer, and at first I put it in the junk coins bin, but kept it because of it's date. It is 1920 BTW. And when looking at it closer, I looked at the C and all, and saw it was raised, and here it is now, lol. Glad I looked at it closer. Phoenix
Uh-oh! Now you'll figure out what I did and who I am! I mean, what I didn't do and who I am not. lol, j/k. Phoenix
It may be a lamination error, but the resolution of your photos is too poor to be sure. It's definitely not a die crack.
Cool, thanks. I'll try to get better pics then. Do you have any idea what that is in the C in Cent? It is raised, and has me puzzled. Thanks everyone so far! Phoenix
I think a diecrack is more like a thin line, like this. Only my opinion, thanks for the input though. :kewl: Man, wouldn't that be something! Wonder what something like that would go for. Thanks all for the input! I might get an opinion from Ken Potter also, won't hurt to ask his opinion on this also. Thanks everybody! Phoenix
***update*** Okay, sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I'd like to maybe solve this cents mystery. Came across it again a few days ago. Now I hopefull have some pics that will put this guy to a rest, lol. What are all y'alls opinions? Thanks ahead of time, here are the pics: Phoenix
My WAG - the die broke which caused the raised line and pieces of the broken die also caused a strike-thru.
Sorry to say, but with the new pictures, it looks like post mint damage, or possibly struck through a small chain. Edit- I would say post mint.
It's post-strike damage. The elevated pressure ridges that flank the indentations are a dead giveaway.
Okay, which one is it? I was considering post mint too, but the something is telling me diff. for some reason. Any other opinions? Thanks for all the help so far guys! Phoenix
