I don't collect them, but I enjoy looking at them... your Bust Half is really eye appealing to me! Nice snag at a great price on both those pieces. Good job!
Nice pickups for a decent price. I think the Bustie is my favorite of the two. The toning is certainly a sign that it was out of circulation for a long time, and probably in an album like someone else suggested. I do wonder about whatever's going on in front of the nose on the obverse (planchet flaw is what it looks like to me), and maybe it would theoretically keep it from slabbing, but for the price, it's a great coin. I also agree with @V. Kurt Bellman about the Buffalo nickel. Nice amount of detail -- looks XF at least, possibly low AU. I suspect your lighting just isn't good enough to show the luster.
I was referring to that flaw when I said I don't think she would grade. Also I would only add coins with VF grades and higher to my collection. PCGS price guide is $67 for a G4 so I think the price was fair.
I don't personally have much of a problem with planchet flaws that were there when the coin was struck. I don't think I'd add this particular coin to my collection, either, but 15-year-old me probably would have loved to own it.
@Walking Sterling Silver, your Buffalo is awesome! I don't see anything wrong with planchet flaws. Depending on the series, I'm comfortable with 'details' if the coin still has eye appeal. I'm not saying that this is a good fit for every collector, but I am suggesting that it's okay to explore RAW coins and not feel the need to always have slabbed coins. The TPG's get it wrong sometimes too. My grade given your photos would be XF 40. That is definitely good enough for most collections and definitely good enough for mine. Thanks for sharing some great pickups with us!
