I thought I had started a thread about this but I can't find it (truth is, I don't know HOW to search for it).

Anyway, since my Wantlist is VERY thin and expensive I wanted to have something to keep my interest up.
I wandered through the Red Book and finally decided to work on an "Arrows at Date" Seated Liberty set.
This includes SL coins with face values of:
    -- half dime
    -- dime
    -- quarter
    -- half dollar
    I decided I'd go for XF/AU coins.
For me it's a good set to work on since I already had 9 in my type set.
The Red Book lists 45 date/mm coins with the arrows.
I immediately eliminated 7 because of catalog value:
-- ALL five from the CC Mint
-- one from the S Mint
-- one rarer O Mint variety
That left me with 38 to get for my set.

I just BIN'ed three on eBay.
When I get them that will bring my total up to 20 (over half way).
It's now looking like I'll have to go to big shows to find most of the rest.
I've already looked through Heritage, Great Collections and Stacks.
They have some of the ones I need but the grades are way too high.

Anyway, it keeps the numismatic juices flowing.

I'm chasing those for my Type Set too; good luck!

Good choice, I love the designs that have the rays behind the eagle. I have a couple of those.

I think these are fun too! Plus they have an interesting history that is fun to tell non-collectors.
Had no idea there were so many varieties though! DSC_0187.JPG

    Not so much as varieties.
    It's face value/date/mm combinations.

EBay don't have much in them. Most of them coins from Ebay are low grade and expensive. I am too working on my type set. I am missing only the 2 type dollars to complete the set.

    Mine not high grade but has a #3 (103) obverse and a P (116) reverse with a retained CUD. 1853 11.50 obv.jpg 1853 11.50 rev.jpg

    The Explanation

A few years ago I decided to put together a couple high grade (MS-66, MS-66FT & PF-67) Roosevelt silver dime sets.
The thinking was no one is seriously collecting them so if and when they finally redesign the dime prices will shoot up (I hope).

Then I decided to put together a small-sized one dollar currency set.
    Same logic.
Not many are seriously collecting them so if and when they finally replace them with the dollar coin the prices will shoot up (I hope).

But the question is will I still be alive to reap the benefits.

Nice detail and original surfaces. It's interesting how the seller calls it AU50 and PCGS says AU53.

I never really considered "arrows at date" as a series per se, because arrows were added and removed a couple of times across multiple denominations. But, I can see the appeal. :) I especially like the "arrows and rays" varieties, myself.
