.......OK And while you're at it, take a look at this sellers other items. Who wants to be first to e-mail this garage sale, swap meet, estate sale, luckiest guy on earth? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...rom=R40&satitle=190101053467&category0=&fvi=1 What's sad to see is the bids this seller is already getting on the other stuff, does anybody do their homework anymore?
The coin is a counterfeit. No 1887-CC Morgans were ever minted. :hammer: This coin is probably from Asia.dd:
the obverse looks very 1921ish. Maybe whoever made it just took the date of a 1921 and added the 1887 and cc. ???
It does look like a 21, but how can you change the date so easily ? Aren't those Asian ones usually cast, not altered ?
It is sad that people out there will attempt to fraud people. What is even sadder is when people are stupid enough to buy something as obvious as that. Probably was made as a novelty item though. Phoenix
I did send a friendly message to the seller, giving him the benefit of the douby that he may be the victim of fraud rather than the perpetrator of it. Just let him know that Carson City didn't mint any silver dollars in 1887, and thus the coin he's selling can't possibly be real. Also reported it to eBay. Um, another problem coin that this person is selling is an 1844 CC seated liberty dollar. Anyone know why that one can't be real? Hint: The Carson City mint did not even exist until 1870! Reported that one too. Only problem is I can only report the item as counterfeit to eBay; I can't leave any commentary, so I have to hope that whoever reads my report knows enough about coins to realize that 1844 CC and 1887 CC dollars do not exist, and thus can not possibly be real. Have serious doubts about the authenticity of anything else he's selling too, but I'm not that good at figuring out whether a coin is fake or not. These two are obvious though; I can determine that they're fake without even having to look at them, because they're fakes of coins that never really existed.
Update: The auctions for the 1844 CC and 1887 CC dollars were both pulled. COuldn't tell you if they were removed by the seller voluntarily or removed by eBay (and eBay won't tell either, as per their policies.)
The 1887 CC was pulled by eBay. If the seller pulls it, the listing can still be viewed. Without a listing number, I can not tell about the 1944 CC.
