    Hey guys and girls.
I was looking around and I found this.
It's a 2.7 gram Valens Siliqua with the mint mark CONSS.
So all sounds good right? Wrong! This is way to heavy for a post reform Siliqua and would put it in the lower range for a pre reform Siliqua or Argenteus ( yes they still struck them at the time in very limited quantities)
I really don't know what this coin is. Can you smart people help me find the answer to this coin?
Beer and Wine if we crack this puzzle!

    It's also 20mm.

PS- I am just curious and am not going to buy it ( I hope for my wallet's sake)
    Oh and happy b-day Mat!;)

Doesn't look like the same coin to me. Do you mean it is the same type?

Yeah, not the same at ALL. Different officiana mark, different flan, etc. Must mean the same type.

He was referring to the OP coin and the one in the acsearch link posted by arnoldoe. Same coin.

It's not the same coin, just the same type. Look at the mintmark if nothing else. CONSS vs CONS Epsilon.

Ah, I see. It's the link that is the same. Sorry. I should know better than to question you TIF.

Surely that was written in sarcasm font. I am frequently wrong or uninformed. :D

No sarcasm. I'm sure you must be wrong sometimes, but I have never seen it (again, no sarcasm).

RIC VIII Constantinople 11d is an argenteus. I've double-checked this attribution and it's correct. Calling it a siliqua is merely a dealer's error.

The argentii listed in RIC for this ruler and type range from 2.7 to 3.5g, so it's in the proper weight range, just on the lower end. But three of the five coins recorded are under 3g, so it's not an anomaly.

I'll send you my address for the beer and wine. :)

    Lol!
    You go TIF!

I don't have the RIC; maybe Doug can help me nail down the rarity and what the extra S is.
    Is it the Second officina?
