Does this toning look real?

I came upon this literally green Buffalo nickel on ebay, but it looks weird. What do you think?

Also it looks like half of his stuff is green or yellow?!?!

Suppose it could be natural, but they must have been stored in a very odd environment.

If it is real, IMO it's still ugly. I wouldn't buy it! Nickels that turn green I call "corroded" or "tarnished," not "toned." Coins have no business being green.

 

I personally feel it is totally artificial. If it is real, whatever is on the surface of that coin, most likely should not be there.

 

i agree with the others, i dont think green is natural 'toning'... what a way to kill a nice coin.

 

It looks like something was painted on.

 

AT. That seller is just a scammer. He says it is "Silver". Also, look at the bust's hair, there is some wear...it is ATed to cover up the wear....

 

I'm not too sure but nickel is a rather difficult metal to tone unlike silver. Does look suspicious.

 

The color yellow is not unusual for buffalos. That said, my sense is the color is natural, and the photo has been enhanced. Regardless, the coin is not that remarkable or unusual enough to warrant serious consideration...Mike

It might be natural, but just cause it's natural doesn't mean it looks nice or should be there.

 

I would like to bid on his items and never pay just to tick that guy off after that massage.

(Speaking of ebay, I sold a coin, clearly descibed that it had spots on it, and would you believe it I just got I email complaining about the spots!)

If you take a look at all of the coins he is selling, half or so all to appear yellow or green. I did not see many rainbow type toning on any. That was what bothered me and when I asked him about that, he exploded in rage.

His negs all sounded like the blast he gave me for asking a question abou his product.Insults and rude.

 

I say everyone who has an eBay account message him about it, and copy all the hilarious responces here.

 

I sent him a message...let's see what he says back to me.

That was actually my first and only words back to him from his first rant....no kidding.

I like his deflection move of going after another dealer too.

 

I think it should be pointed out that the coin is not uncirculated. If you look toward the rear of the Buffalo on the reverse, there is some flatness....it definitely looks like an AU piece to me.

That said, I think the coin is AT, and was done this way to attempt to hide the luster breaks that would indicated wear. Therefore the coin could be passed off as a "beautifully toned uncirculated piece."

Looks like a scam artist in my opinion.
