How do you store and show off your ancients?

Hello everyone. Being a beginner collector of ancient coins, I have yet to purchase one of the many ways of storing my coins. As of now, I just have them in plastic 2x2 flips, but not sure if I want to keep them in there or go another route of many, to store them such as slabs or capsules, as well as after, purchasing boxes or folders to showcase them as well. So I am curious as to how all of you store and show off your coins. Need some ideas! Thanks! :)

Unfortunately most of mine go into flips, into red boxes and then into the SDB. Nowadays I believe most collectors show off their collection with pictures of their coins.

Non-PVC flips in folders. I have nobody in real life to show off my coins to, so as medoraman says, pics.

Just 2x2 non-PCP flips in three ring binders. Nothing fancy, but it is accessible.

Used to be 2x2 flips in binders but I changed to lindner trays. I find that I get them out more since I put them into the trays.

i store in pvc free flips, coin are stored in the red boxes with desiccant, i do have a binder of the first coins i got.

there is nobody around here who wants to see my coins :(, so this this is where i show of my coins as well.

i did have the pleasure of going to Bing's house last year and checking out his coins in person. has anyone here shown off their coin collection to someone in person? i suspect not many of us have.

I've gone to a few shows with Ardatirion and recently met Doug Smith at Baltimore, but that was show-going, not showing off coins.

Maybe I'll go pay Bing a visit, but I wouldn't want cart my coins all the way down the East Coast. It would be a case of you-show-me-yours and...you-show-me-some-more-of-yours.

I picked up the habit of 2x2 paper envelopes from the early copper crowd, still use them for ancients.

I purchased Abafil trays and a case, which are available from Ed Waddell and other dealers: http://www.coin.com/cases/
They are expensive, but I buy higher priced coins and these are an impressive way to display them.

Having decent photos of every coin makes the choices easier since I can see any coin on computer or even on a Nook.

I now use paper envelopes but have a tray or two left from the good old days when all my coins were in trays and all my trays fit in one large safe deposit box. That was before I got too many coins. I still like open trays best but they stop being practical at some point. When the try is full, it gets transferred to envelopes and off to the bank. The one shown here is a 77 space but now I use a 40 spacer for the purpose.

This was from the good old days.

More from 50-60 years ago -- Meghrig made a blank album with 144 holes, about half-dollar size, with acetate strips on both sides. I had two or three of those full of foreign coins, but eventually migrated to plain old manila 2x2's. Modern technology has left those in the dust, although Meghrig is still in business, making 80 years in 2016.

Awesome! Thank you so much for all the replies! I can see how the 2x2's and envelopes are way more practical, being that like many of you stated, many showcase their coin portfolios in digital format. Trays would be still a very cool way to display them, especially for a beginner like myself, with not too many coins to showcase and place, but can definitely see how veteran collectors like yourself, @dougsmit , would have to do away with them at some point. Very cool non-the-less.

For my favourite coins i have this small black folder you can find at hobby lobby or many book stores. It has 60 spaces.
i put my coins in a simple plastic bag i can fold and they fit nicely into the black folder.
Very easy to take out and show and trade.

Nothing fancy or professional but i am a beginner as well.

I take my coins with me whenever i visit family or have a lot of downtime at work. The real expensive ones like my NGC coins i keep in a simple wooden box in my closet under some folded clothes. I dont want to show case them in the rare occasion that my house gets broken into.

I show mine via photographs, as my coins are stored in safety deposit boxes. I do keep a Hadrian sestertius and a handful of lower value coins at home to enjoy, but in today's world, it's best to be prudent and overly cautious with portable valuables.

I keep mine in non-PVC folders, within a series of 3-Ring binders

=> I also print-out photographs and other relevant info ...

... than I stick all of the binders in a big gun-safe (it works for me)

trays are better than albums but they get dirty...
I wished there were these for us, but capsules are usually too thin for ancients.

I don't get to show my coins off physically either, so my priority for storing them is that everything is well organized.

Whenever I receive new coins, I transfer them into fresh PVC-free flips before storing them in their respective boxes (which are labelled accordingly).

Just wait. There was a time my books and coins could be in a nice little pile like that. Now, I had to construct 8x9 bookshelves in my new house just to house the "better" coin and history books. I have the largest sdb they rent and with just the PM and ancients will no longer fit in there, and I have drawers full of junk like world coins. It just continues to accumulate. :)
