Just when you think you've seen or heard about all the new Washington Dollar mint errors that got by the mint inspectors, another one pops up worth looking for. Besides the normal gamout escaping the mint's quality control employees such as, die cracks, die chips, die clashes, etc, here's another die error. When you look at the photo, which is courtesy of CONECA, notice the two die gouges running from the numeral 1 (one) at a slant into the sleeve of Liberty's gown....hope she isn't ticklish...lol. http://hermes.csd.net/~coneca/image/2007PGWdollarSpeared01b470.jpg Clinker
TO: MintNe1 Until a guestimate is done on how many the numismatic community "thinks" may have escaped quality control, they're only worth about $4. As the numbers increase and the coin gains collectible recognition the price may rise to $50 or more... Clinker
i am now of the opinion, that a washington dollar that doesnt have missing edge lettering, or incorrectly spaced edge lettering or doesnt have a spear running thru libertys arm ... this dollar would truly be the error. Think about it. Every washington dollar you find will have some error.. so let them be the rule, and a washington dollar that DOESNT have an error be whats worth collecting. =P
Thanks for the post about another error!?! Makes you wonder again what is really going on with our government. I have to agree, it will be the "perfect" and "near-perfect" Washington's that will bring the real premium.
Well, just remember - their fame stopwatch is at 14 minutes, 30 seconds, and counting. Soon we'll have John Adams to kick around.
I looked at 125 wash$1's and found about 18 "irregularities". Off centered reverses, edge lettering running to the very edge of the rim, a couple of upside down letters impressed into the edge etc. Doy you think that the US MINT will improve it's quality control or are there just too many coins to be processed to take on that task?
To All aNYTHING ABOUT THE 2007 Sacagawea Dollars yet? Not release or distribution, but errors. Clinker
The amount of errors being reported on those dollar coins is becoming a real topic everywhere. I have people telling me constantly about them. What I like is when someone says "Did you hear that the new dollar coins have some errors on them?" It is really getting difficult to act suprized. A friend of mine is trying the Dremel buffer on the sides to help make a few more.
Oooh, I found an Adams dollar with a missing Adams portrait and a Washington Portrait in it's place!!!! The funny part is, I bet people would bid more than a $1 for such a description on eBay
