Well it's been quite some time since those CC mint mark Morgans have been pressed out - and while no longer under the guise of the feds - it appears that Carson City mint presses are rolling again to make a limited number of 150th anniversary tokens / coins. In today's Nevada Appeal, they show the original press #1 being re-activated to make some limited edition tokens out of battle born silver. I'll probably pick one up some how, but I thought it was deserving of a post - to see the original #1 press back in action after all these years. Now if we only knew someone with the original 1889-CC dies, and the keys to the back door... And if you DO know someone with the dies, I have contacts in Carson!
Wow ! That's amazing news. I wonder how these coins will be sold. US mint for an anniversary special ?
https://www.cointalk.com/threads/carson-city-mint-commemorative-medal-pony-express-1860-2010.115751/ Here's a thread from 2010 about the old #1 press put back into commission to strike these medals . I have one around here somewhere. they were numbered too! So the old press has been used for striking several tokens and medals . This one for the pony Express. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-see-your-exonumia.203005/page-18#post-1655822 Here's the link to the silver one done in 2010 Mine was medal 548/2010 I don't believe they ever reached the limit of 2010.
I think it's being run by the museum under the guise of some gubmint department somehow - some way. Here's two guys posing for a photo op with the first pressing and the press in the background. Picture shamelessly stolen from Nevada Appeal newspaper. Don't sue me, it's not worth it!
No it's being run by the State of Nevada so first get your facts straight . Or at least post the correct facts! And second in the U.S. we call it Government not "Gubmint" ! We'll unless you're from a third world country then we'll give you a pass.
Here are what FACT's are ... coin press #1 built 1869 Makers Morgan & Orr Philadelphia Pa. weight 12,000 lbs. production capabilities 1869 1500 coins per hour Today 1 medal takes 10 seconds to strike Striking pressure 1869 200 tons Today 200 tons Location of the #1 CC coin press. Carson City mint building ,Nevada state museum . 600 N. Carson street, Carson City Nevada,89701 open Wednesday -Saturday 8-4:30 All Facts..... and not run by the gubmint!
Alright Paddy the nasty tempered know-it-all! "I think" it an inflection as to say my best guess. And it's being run by the museum - at the museum. State of Nevada = Gubmint And as for your "mood" - being a snarky know-it-all is not "classy" by any means. Sheesh!
You sir have no right to judge anyone on class! You can't even post the correct facts! And no way profess to know it all... but knows enough to research and have the facts before posting a thread. Sheesh!!!!
