I just found one of these in my change. Any idea how many were made? Have later die states been found? How many quarters are made from one die if the die lasts as long as it can?
Don't have a pic of a normal one, I'll work on that later. For now, notice how a portion of the pump handle is in the window pane to the top right of the pump handle - a normal one would have an empty window pane.
Yep, I couldn't believe it. I've searched a few rolls I bought from the mint, but nothing. Then I find one in change and I'm on the west coast and this is a P mint coin.
The hot rush is over, this DDR was selling for 200 dollars not to long ago, now down to 13 dollars ....
The price of these is all over the place - in the last 7 days they've sold on eBay at auction for $16.39 to 109.50 and BIN's for $39.99. We'll have to wait to see how many are eventually found for a real value to be established. Only 12 ads for these on eBay, so doesn't look like any major finds have happened yet, other than one ad selling a half roll (20) for $685.
Cool find. If you found it in pocket change, it is likely plentiful. I saw rickmp's post about these and thought of buying out the 100 or so bags the mint had left last week. I decided not to as I have been burned doing impulse buys like this in the past. Looks like they are now sold out. I hope whoever speculated on them does well. I am thinking these are pretty common though. TC
One WDDR-004 MS67 is for sale on EBay for $995. From what I'm reading there are only 6 or so known MS 67 WDDR 004. None are graded higher.
Rick you hit a home run with your Homestead box sales.. You had the good time stamps, if I remember correctly. So even if you found 15 004's per box, by the time you sold them all individually you wouldn't have netted what you got per box. Plus think of the time and hassle of individual sales. Then to ferret out a MS 67 is like impossible. On another forum a guy has 2,000 of the 004 errors and only sent 20 in for grading. That tells you how hard these are to find in 67. How many of those will get a 67? None? Two? who knows.
I sometimes think back and wonder what if I had kept and searched them? How would I have made out? But then I remember the money I made while someone else does all the work.
