    Hey folks!
Hitting a couple graduation parties this year with my wife for some of the kids graduating high school.

When I graduated back in the day, a few people got me some American Silver Eagles. I thought that was a pretty cool gift. They also gave me a check, which made it even better. :)

My wife doesn't seem to think that the ASEs make very good gifts, especially for the girls. She doesn't think they'll really be wanted or appreciated. I think I pretty much agree with her--that most people would not understand what it was, appreciate it, or even like it... and think it was a lame gift. But maybe I'm wrong?

Just was wondering if you all are able to incorporate your love in this arena into gift giving, especially with the graduation season here. :)

    Thanks!

In the military, when you commission as an officer, it is tradition to hand a silver dollar to the first person who salutes you. I am certain, if you dig enough, you'll find that there might be a similar tradition for schools and justify your coin interests. Here are my thoughts after discussing this with my wife: the ASE would be best if it were the year they graduate. Having said that, if they're not into coins, they might not appreciate it as much and look for an opportunity to spend/sell it. You might try getting a 1 oz bar (or larger, depending on your pocket size) and having their names/graduation year engraved. That could become a keepsake that they could proudly display on a shelf. Best I could do. I love coins and whenever I have kids, they will get an ASE (or whatever we're using then) with their graduation year on it. Whatever they do with it is up to them.

That's exactly what I got at my graduation. Two ASEs of that year (from different people). Shame they were stolen. :( But I'll replace 'em.

Side question -- With ASEs from the mint, what grade do those normally ship in? Mine always seemed like they were in what my untrained eye discerned as flawless.

There are two things that always seem to attract women........gold & diamonds! Since the Mint doesn't produce any diamond-encrusted coins, maybe you could find a nice St. Gaudens for the girls.

I've given current year eagles as graduation gifts, to both boys and girls. I put them in one of these holders.

I replaced the cardboard insert with one I made out of cardstock with their school colors and logo and personalized it. Whether or not they've been treasured and kept I don't know.

That was really thoughtful and I know I would have loved to receive that kind of gift.

Not sure what your budget is but you could always go gold:)

A 2015 ASE or graduation year piece of bullion, I think, would be cool but I'm a coin collector. Another idea, find a nice looking Morgan for them.

Gold is out of budget, but the morgan is a nice idea. :)

So I think a Morgan is only a good idea if the girl likes coins. Otherwise, I think an ASE with the graduation year is the better option.
