Constantine AE3 Follis, Londinium mint, 307-337 AD, 3.8g, 24mm OBV: IMP CONSTANTINVS P F AVG, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. REV: SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI T-F, Sol standing left holding globe. Mintmark PLN. REF: RIV VI Londinium 122 Post those Constantine I coins if you so wish, or any Londinium mint coins.
You certainly have been busy lately. A lot coins posted in just the past few days. Did you win the lottery? Nice coin. The coins from London are not only highly sought after, but I find them well cut in the first place. I do not have a Con I from London, but I do have a Crispus from there: CRISPUS AE Follis OBVERSE: CRISPVS NOB CAES, laureate, cuirassed bust right REVERSE: SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI, Sol standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding globe and raising right hand. Crescent in left field. Mintmark PLN. Toone 194; Bourton-on-the-Water hoard 1464-1466 Struck at London 318 AD 3.2, 21mm RIC VII 144
I have purchased a lot of coins in the last two months and I've been really busy posting and shooting all these coins. I have a few more to post as well. Nice Londinium Crispus.
My newest London mint coin arrived today. Constantine the Great Follis (AE3) Obv:– CONSTANTINVS P AVG, Laureate cuirassed bust right Rev:– COMITI AVGG NN, Sol radiate standing left, holding globe and whip Minted in London (_ | * //PLN) A.D. 310-312 Reference(s) – RIC VI London 169 (S citing Oxford)
I was mistaken. I do have a Constantine I from the London mint: CONSTANTINE I AE2 Follis OBVERSE: Constantine I AE3. 315-316 AD. IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG, laureate, cuirassed bust right REVERSE: SOLI INVICTO COMITI, Sol, radiate, standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding globe, right hand raised, S-F across fields, MLN in ex. Struck at London 315-16 AD 3.1g, 20mm RIC VII 43
My other newest Constantine the Great. Lugdunum rather than London. Constantine the Great Obv:– IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG, Laureate bust right Rev:– SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI, Sol standing left holding globe in left and raising right Minted in Lugdunum. TF in left field, * in right field; PLG in exe. A.D. 315-316 Reference:– RIC VII Lugdunum 34
I like the Lugdunum mint just as much as the Londinium mint myself. Nice coins and thanks for posting.
I don't know. There are qualities from many of the mints that I like. Trier comes to mind as does Alexandria. Even though I have some nice coins from the Siscia mint, I think I like the designs from there the least.
London: Diocletian (no mark = London) Maximianus by Carausius Carausius Maximinus II Licinius I Constantine I Fausta Crispus Constantine II I do not have a Constantius I, Galerius, Allectus or Severus II. Who else exists?
Constantius I Chlorus Obv:– FL VAL CONSTANTIVS NOB C, Laureate, cuirassed bust left Rev:– GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI, Genius standing left, modius on head, naked but for chalmys over left shoulder, right holding patera Minted in London (No marks). c. A.D. 300 onwards Ref:– RIC VI London 14a (R)
Sweet new score, Daryl => wow dawg, you're coin-rolling at the moment (you're the dude that's postin' the most!) => burnin' like a comet, brother!! (you rock, 101!!)
Terrific posts guys!!! No mintmark equals London------I wasn't aware of that...although I must not have one or I would have noticed, at least on those non-junk drawer examples.
You've certainly acquired a nice set of coins lately, Gil. I haven't commented on every thread, but I like them all! I have only one coin from the London mint - I don't actually look for coins from specific mints, except perhaps Alexandria. But it is a rare reverse type for Constantine II... Constantine II AE Reduced follis, 18mm, 3.1g, London mint: 318 AD. Obv.: FL CL CONSTANTINVS IVN NC; Bust laureate, draped cuirassed, seen from back. Rev.: PRINCIPIA I-VVENTVTIS; Prince in military dress, standing right, cloak spread, leaning on reversed vertical spear, hand resting on shield; crescent // PLN. Reference: cf. RIC VII London 136. R4 Notes: The RIC coin has legend break PRINCIPIA IV-VENTVTIS.
