Nice pictures, Bonnie. I really like the coin. That thing on there, I don't know what the heck that is. It's raised on the coin, meaning, if it came from the die, it was indented on the die, and in the nature of a die chip. If it is a die chip, it's a pretty funky one. Ah, I'm going to go with that, it's a funky die chip, a die error, not PMD.

I was wondering if I paid to much for it, did'nt have my glasses on so I couldn't really see it.. I just asked for a 1916, I saw all this when I got home

Well, if it is an error, it's a double-edged sword. Collectors who want the piece intact are going to mark it down for the error, while error collectors may even go over-market for it.

I wonder if it isn't some form of adhesive. Where did you buy it? Locally? Internet?

I'm staring at it and struggling to figure out how it happened. It looks PMD because if it was like that when it was struck, the letters should be stamped over/into whatever that is.

I would lean towards PMD. Perhaps some sort of solder? It looks, at least to me, like it ate in to the coin a bit then sagged like running paint.

It's a good place where someone would solder a clip if they were make the coin into a pin.

does it all appear to be above the coin? maybe it's solder and it can be removed?
