I'm with you man. I got a whole box like that. I hate the sinking feeling when I see all that shine. (I know I should look for errors...)
Sell them on eBay for twice face value + shipping You wouldn't be the first one...here's someone selling for 7x face value http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-D-Linc...aultDomain_0&hash=item43da9b20a5#ht_33wt_1153 I have 8 rolls of 2009 Lincoln Commemorative pennies. All straight from the mint in BU or better. One roll for each theme and one roll from each mint. They came that way, they are wrapped, they'll sit in the back of the safe until I decide either to sell them in about 20 years (either individually or as a roll) or to submit them in a bulk submission to PCGS so I can sell them as slabbed coins.
Sorry....Lincoln. Wrong president. Been a rough couple of days followed by a lot of caffeine this morning LOL. Birth Home/Log Cabin (one roll P the other D) Formative Years/Log Splitter (one roll P the other D) Professional Life (one roll P the other D) The Presidency (one roll P the other D)
It struck me odd that you "hate" the rolls you received, but after reading the strand, I understand. Banks in my area "lie" (if you will) because the collectors in my area (Idaho) return rolled coin back unrolled. It's a nightmare for the tellers. I would suggest going to the bank manager, discuss the situation, that you would like to be put on a program of sorts. Remember, you are the customer. In any event, best luck. Also, I read the 2015s only as a plural, not as a "S." Additionally you may wish to ask for Tails and not buy rolls that are just Heads on both ends.
Wish I could get lucky like that. Went to 5 banks yesterday looking for anything 2015. Three of the 5 tellers I asked said "We don't have the time to separate all the 2015 coins so you would have to pick through em".
I never followed up on this thread. I ended up opening all 4 rolls. As suspected, they were all 2015 except one. That one had a 1962 cent mixed in with the rest all 2015. It was amazing to see just one brown cent mixed in with all the new shiny pennies. One of the weirdest things I've ever seen while coin roll hunting.
Do you know how many thousands of posts have created this mistake? It's about time you got out of bed! Chris
if that was the case I would have opened and dumped my unc box of homestead quarters. ended up with about 12 new varieties. sold 1 unc 2015 for $109.50. you absolutely should check them. you could be throwing away hundreds instead of cents. I always open 10 rolls of unc just to be sure
My understanding has always been that it's painstaking to search for new varieties and to then sell them for anything more than face, or at least enough over face to justify the time spent. Of course if one enjoys the searching then that should make it rewarding enough. I just don't enjoy that aspect of collecting. Just curious how many varieties do you find in an hour of non-stop searching? What is the average sell price of each variety? Not asking to compare it to a job, just wondering.
I love roll searching but my eye sight ain't what it used to be. Even with a loop I get tired after a little while so unless it's something obvious I probably miss it. I have three grandsons now the oldest being three years old and anticipating this I started keeping new rolls in '09 and have since added OBW and mint rolls I can buy cheap or trade for. I probably have a couple of hundred by now and hope when they are older they are interested enough to sit and search through them. I will be a lot more happier if they find something then if I did anyway. Besides if they don't want to search them I can put them on eBay and want loose anything as the majority were bought at face value. I think it's a pretty safe savings plan at least.
I wouldn't say I ENJOY searching, but if I can make $50-$100 extra a month well then it's money I didn't have. I don't collect ANY of my errors. if I have a good month I might buy 4 circ silver quarters from the coin store. in an hour....on these particular boxes I can open one roll and have it produce no less than 4 varieties. the average sell price for minor varieties is $5. the sell price on what I will call a medium variety sell for 10-15. and the major ( what I call the strong varieties) are 20- 25
