Awesome. I'm glad you introduced him, and I'm glad he picked it up and will benefit from this wonderful hobby. My son is four and I can only hope he will get interested. As of now, he shows absolutely no interest, but it's probably just his age

Way more important than the coins, IMO. It's the big reason why I liked the hobby so much.

Absolutely for sure. He is naturally inclined to collecting any way, we have to keep an eye on his room or *everything* becomes a collection. So i've tried to embrace that and direct it to coins and some other stuff.

Yup for sure it's his age. When they are that young, they don't have an interest in anything other than soaking up the world around them experience wise. With Drew, I took him to his first show when he was 9. At that show, all he wanted to do was look for coins with animals on them LOL. But I let him look at what he wanted and it has developed from there. Then again, he may drop his interest as he gets older, but I would bet if he does, he'll come back to it at a later date. Seems like that happens a lot. If he does that then he will be ahead of the game at that point. I never had anyone show me anything about coin collecting. Evidently my grandfather on my mother's side collected, but he died when I was 5, so he was never able to "pass it on."

Anyway, keep encouraging him, he'll show some interest at some point. They always wanna be like their dad...

Bingo.... that is the problem. I have a hoarding complex now... I use to collect everything from empty video game boxes, star wars figures, collectible cards, etc. Down the road, it becomes very hard to part ways with a ton of stuff.

I bet a lot of us started the same way . Plus I'd bet most of us collect more than just coins even if it's nowhere near the intensity of coins . For me it's comic books from the '60s , Case pocket knives , lead soldiers and on and on . I'd collect old Harleys and Indians if they weren't so expensive .

Cool. I started when I was around 9, too. I never lost interest, but I had to cash out and take a fairly long break.
