2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set: Worth the Grade?

I was able to obtain one set of the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver sets from the US Mint before they went on Backorder, as I am really keen to have the reverse proof Roosevelt dime included in the set.

My question is for anyone with experience in utilizing the grading services. I am currently a member of PCGS, though I see my membership going to the wayside soon, as I rarely use it and it can be rather costly. The costs of the grading is rarely worth the value of the common silver coins I deal with.

However, this set includes the possibility of unique labels which for whatever reason, buyers like to have when you resell items of limited mintages. Though, as a silver investor, I would not likely pay extra money just for a different label, sometimes it pays-off that others will.

Anyone planning to send this set into grading? If so, which service offers the most bang for buck on this set?

The resellers are already in their frenzy online, with a markup of over $30 in some cases.. I will sit on my set and just wait and see (as I do with, well, pretty much all my silver), but I wanted to know the opinion of getting holders on these little dimes.

if you are going to sell now then yes get them holdered if you are going to sell them after 10 years the set will be worth less than 50 bucks with or without the holder IMHO

 

But silver will be $1,000 an oz by then so the set should be worth at least $500

Maybe $30 an oz $35 tops . IMHO .

 

I prefer NGC when sending coins in to grade. I like the holder better than PCGS's. I have two sets, one to grade and one to keep in the OGP.

 

My guess is $75 bucks for a set of PR70.

 

I just sent mine in to be graded along with some other coins for my type set. So it'll be interesting to see what the results are.

 

OP...don't waste your money on grading fees + shipping. If you really wanted it that bad it is cheaper to buy the set that is already graded.

Silverhouse, I would be greatly interested in your results if you're willing to share once they come back. As with most limited sets of US Mint products, I will be confident it will at least maintain the value of what I paid. However, I am excited to see the fate of the reverse proof in the future.

 

I have felt this is true in most cases. Rarely do you see a modern product worth the grading fees, at least for regular submission levels like mine. I'm sure on the bulk submission level it begins to make more sense!

 

I'll post the results once I get them back in a few weeks. I still have one set in the OGP. I am more interested to see what my classic coinage will grade.
