Hi Guys and girls! A friend has a coin he would like me to I'd. Unfortunately I have no idea who this is on the coin or if it is an Imperial or Provincial issue. All help is welcome. Thanks!
Looks like sacrificial implements reverse, COS III. That's not enough for me to make a positive ID, but it's a clue.
That's a coin that usually marks the ruler donning the toga virilis at a young age. More than likely that's a Imperial issue.
If the reverse does in fact read COS III, it can't be Diadumenian. He served only one year as Caesar under his father Macrinus, AD 217-218, and less than a year as Augustus, AD 218, before they were both killed by Caracalla. Diadumenian never achieved even one consulship, never mind three.
Ummm, here is an example of a Diadumenian (not sure if that helps ya, or not?) ... the portraits do look kinda similar/possible? Cheers
