I received the two March of Dimes sets I ordered today. I didn't know what quality to expect since I had read a few post about low quality. To my surprise one of the reverse proof dimes was struck through a piece of metal possibly wire. It's right across the cheek. Since I am an error are variety collector I feel I hit the jackpot. It does go to show that the Mint does not inspect all proof coins before they are packaged.
Agreed Jackpot grade it flip it and make some $$$ fast. Unless you're like me and as a variety collector you don't want to part with a treasure .
With a mintage of 75,000 you probably did hit the jackpot. Slab it if you are inclined to do so and ask one of the bigger auction house's if they might be interested as it's going to be hard to put a solid value on this. It may well turn out to be unique. Nice find and congrats!
very cool strike thru. Them mint workers have probably been reading all the not so nice threads on the quality of the new MOD sets over the internet and thought "wait till I get to work tomorrow I show em poor quality"
@GatorGann There is too much glare on the mark. Can you take a photo from directly overhead, please? Chris
I think the only money the mint scrutinizes nowadays is that which it receives in payment for its product.
