Hey sadly, I can't make a cool collage, or even make a moving computer-graphic-thingy ... oh, but I can certainly spend a wee bit o' money on some cool Ptolemy nuggets

Yah, I scored these two Ptolemy sweeties from my favourite dealer for a mere $132 (delivered) ... yah, it seemed like a cool enough deal for a couple more awesome ancient coins!! (man, not unlike TIF, I absolutely love the looks/fabric of these sweet Ptolemy coins!! ... they're a pleasure to toss back and forth and "feel the love")

Yup, I scored "two" new humble Ptolemy examples (two new rulers) ...

Please welcome my two new modest and awesome examples ...

    Ptolemy I AE20
Obverse: Head of Alexander III wearing elephant skin.
Reverse: Eagle standing on thunderbolt; EY / XAP left.
    Date: 280-265 BC
    Diameter: 20.2 mm.
    Weight: 8.4 gr.
    References: Svoronos 363
Ptolemy I Elephant man a.jpg Ptolemy I Elephant man b.jpg

    Ptolemy V AE26
    Date: 204-180 BC
    Diameter: 26.3 mm.
    Weight: 16.5 gr.
Obverse: Wreathed and draped bust of Isis.
    Reverse: Eagle standing on thunderbolt.

    Ptolemy V a.jpg Ptolemy V b.jpg

.... oh, and I'm sure that you dudes already recognize the rest of the 1/3 pounders

    Ptolemy IV AE40 (70 grams)

=> ohhhhhhhhh & please feel free to Ptolemy-up!! (we never get tired of seeing your "stuff")

Excellent! You can't have too many Ptolemies :D

I have at least one straggler who hasn't been shown. I dig it out and take a picture. It needs some cleaning first since I think some of the patina is CoverGirl.

Oh, and Doug => I kinda thought about what you wrote in one of the other threads and I decided that these two new additions do actually add something new to my Ptolemy hoard ...

=> PT-1 added the cool elephant headdress

=> PT-V added Isis to the show

... yah, I am very happy with my 1/3 pound of Ptolemy coins (they really are "feel good" coins => in-hand wonders!!)

    Cheers, gang

I've been wanting one of these for a long time and I'm pretty sure I'm getting it next. I've started saving for it. At the risk of someone else snagging it, I think it's a decent coin. What do you guys think? It's a slightly smaller one at 39mm.

I figured I'd post it here. Hope you don't mind Steve.

FYI => my two PT-IV examples are 40 mm and approximately 70 grams (is that similar to your sweet colorful dawg?)

That example is 39mm, 38.34g. One of the smaller ones but still pretty hefty. I really like that coin too.

That's a nice one! I hope you buy it.

Here's one that was absent from my "pound of Ptolemies" collage. It was misfiled and unimaged.

    PtolemyVI-VIII-AE28-Sv1424.jpg
    PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT
    Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II

    145-116 BCE, Alexandreia mint
    AE28, 29.1 gm
Obv: Diademed head of Zeus-Ammon right
Rev: ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ BΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ; Two eagles with their wings closed standing left on thunderbolt; cornucopia to left
Ref: Svoronos 1424B (Joint reign of Ptolemy VI and VIII); Weiser 142 (Ptolemy V); SNG Copenhagen 308-310 (Joint reign of Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy VIII); Noeske 212-5 (Joint reign of Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy VIII); Lorber & Faucher Series 7C

It has a wonderfully dark and smooth patina and the flan is nicely shaped.

Time to update the collage-- I have two to add and in a month or so, another one!

It's also time to start looking for the less common mints and types.

I hope I get it too. I really like it and that red patina. The price is also reasonable, but not cheap.

Good thing you caught that extra Ptolemy coin!! It's a nice one and decent patina.
