I just spent an hour or so looking thru some of my old Treasure Hunting Magazines looking for one which had a story in it about a fellow who was such a diehard metal-detectorist that he would even detect mounds of snow which had been piled up by the city after big storms. This old guy was looking for Old Coin Treasure!!! It showed several pictures of him being dwarfed by mounds of snow which had been hauled there by the Cleveland (or some other large northern city) street cleaning department and his findings for that cold day. It was a $1.78 or something like that. One of the dumbest articles I think I've ever read. Anyone else recall this or have a similar experience to tell about? Ben
I've found quite a few coins at the base of parking meters after the snow melts...no metal detecting required!
Sounds to me like you've had a very sheltered life Ben. Yeah, it's a dumb article, but I don't really consider it to be World Class Dumb.
So what? It wasnt an exciting and thrilling article about the hottest new coins. But atleast the man was having fun doing what he loves. You may think it wasnt a good story, but niether was Britney Spears shaving her head and checking in and out of rehab. Dont down the man and somebody elses writing simply because you dont like a story.
A great place to find coins is in casinos. They are all over the floor. I also always check for rare coins after recieving my change at stores or restaraunts.
Or everything that is published in the tabloids, especially in the Daily Mirror or the News of the World. What they do isn't journalism, but they are gutter trash anyway! Aidan.
Being that I'm from Minnesota and think of myself as a snowpile expert, I too think the article is dumb.
Dumbest article I ever read - Brad and Angelina are breaking up... they had an argument over a coin they found using a metal detector borrowed from Jennifer.
Guys---this needs to get back on topic---COINS. If ya'll want to talk about other such stuff then you need to go to the GD forum. Speedy
Ben: Sure the article was dumb, but, some of us are addicted to metal detecting, and if you don't live near a beach, they have to go somewhere. Personally, I have found gold earings, a silver chain and tons of coins in those snow piles, after they have melted. (But I don't use my Metal detectors.)
