Domitian, 81 - 96 AD AE Sestertius, Rome Mint, 31mm, 20.28 grams Obverse: IMP CAES DOMIT AVG P M TR P VIII CENS PER P P, Laureate head of Domitian right. Reverse: COS VIIII LVD SAEC SVF P D S C, Domitian seated left on platform extending right hand to citizen who also extends hand. Between them a child standing right with upraised hands. A four columned temple behind. RIC609 // Foss30 The Saeculum has its origins in Etruscan culture, and refers to a period of time often associated with the founding of a city. Augustus calculated it as 110 years in 17 BC (never mind the wrong math as this coin dates to 88-89 AD!). This example shows a donation scene from the emperor to a citizen. In 88 AD Domitian celebrated Secular Games and held a donative where he distributed purifying incense to the people. A rare type, just worn but with a lovely brown and green patina US$ 400.00 Is did a real coin and patina, i am thinking about it to buy it thanks
now not anymore thanks, then is it worn. i found allmost the same coin, this coin is Estimate for EUR 200.is the price for another coin 400 euro to high thanks.
The heavily pitted version, despite a fascinating reverse, seems high to me at the price you list and the better initial version appears a bit high priced to me as well....but then again, I usually only spend more than $200.00 on coins that are considered to be at least VF grade and have been on my 'want list' for quite a while. So, I suppose it amounts to how badly you want that coin and how long you have been in the market for it. Have you searched various auctions and this link???? http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=608602
thanks you help me alot. For auctions do i needs a credit card. I Pay only with pay Pal. i dont know auctions where i can pay with Pay pal
Most auctions accept pay pal, but not all...They have an explanation of how they accept payment and you can e-mail them to confirm your understanding of how they require payment.
Classical Numismatic Group, Inc. i was asking them do you accept pay pal. Never heart something. thats unhappy they have great coins I shall ask more auctions mabye helps that thanks
i can see hard on the foto of coin real of not. unbelievable dealers of i get the coin. i dont trust ebay looks real is it real vendor is 99.3 score verry strange. G savoca-coins
I understand your concern--- eBay can be risky. Can you get a local bank to issue you a bank card linked to your checking account...I assume you can't since you haven't mentioned it...I use mine like that and many auctions accept checks, money orders and access to your checking account as an electronic transfer...
There are fakes of this popular type. Not only are there fakes of the original sestertius, but fakes of the Paduan reproductions of Cavino, so reproductions of reproductions. I don't like the odd wear pattern on the reverse of the OP coin. The base on which the emperor sits should have the inscription SEQQO SVFPD. Some of that lettering should be visible - it isn't so worn that it should be gone altogether. This is a red flag to me. I would only buy this coin if the seller had a lifetime guarantee of authenticity. Then I would promptly send it to David Sear for authentication. I don't like the second coin either, for different reasons.
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/Savoca-Coins-Germanicus-Sestertius-Hardly-Tooled-28-98-g-34-mm-PEV8950-/261870492189?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3cf8b29a1d i think did is a redflag dealer From the netherlands i pay with pay pal easy for me
I'm confused??? Are you thinking of buying the initial coins you posted or the coin of Germanicus you provided a link for?? E-bay always makes me a bit nervous. I can't read German, but I'd make sure the seller offers what John Anthony mentions:

I understand your confused some ones say i buy from ebay and i don trust ebay. Thats whye i talk a bout germanicus to see him ebay is not so good
Sorry, my computer is running poorly and I sent a message twice. I understand, I would prefer to buy from an accredited auction house and usually only purchase in that manner. I'm uncomfortable purchasing costly items on e-bay So, I guess you need to get a bank account and proceed from there...you can pay by debit card or otherwise link the cards to a pay pal account and deal with the auction house you feel most comfortable with.
so the coin was sold for EUR 1.430,00 !!! I sometimes by coins from them also....but 1430 for one only !! Also live in the Netherlands !!
