So I just got this in the mail today and it seems quite nice. I'm surprised, the photos did not look as nice. Did I just get lucky and get a nice coin for a nice price? I've seen ones that are a much lower grade sell for more.

    Ditto.

How can we GTG if it isn't slabbed?

That's a tough guess for me, being pretty new to coins. As a silver coin from 1873 of course, it should be covered with tarnish. Instead it looks like it went through a buffing wheel, especially the face. XF/SUP is where I'd put it.

lol I just realised that it couldn't be a GTG haha. I also think it's cleaned. It just has a lot more detail than I thought it would.

It can still be a guess the grade... it's just we won't have a clear answer when we're all done guessing. The coin is very clean and nice looking.

Many high grade French 5 francs have been cleaned. Nice coin, looks AU to me. I would not mind owning it.
