So I love Australian coins, especially the old penny. They were minted from 1911-1964 in London, India, Perth and Melbourne (which is pronounced Mel-bin). The mint marks are varied and wide mostly are focused on dots on areas around the coin. Some years such as 1920 have 4 different patterns of dots making tons of interesting varieties to collect. The key year is 1930 with the semi key dates being 1925 and 1946. The rest of the collection is fairly easy to collect and quiet cheap, making this a great collection for the young collector or those without a lot of funds. I have almost completed a whole set of these wonderful coins. Missing about 10 including varieties. Enjoy!
Looks like I lost a few pictures, oh well. I am also working on a toned collection, only have a handful though.
This one has a complete rainbow starts off red at one side and ends up purple at the other. This one almost seems like there is a sunset behind the roo
When you finish off the pennies, try the hundreds of penny "merchant tokens" circa 1849 to 1878 -- now there's a challenge. I'd be very surprised if anyone ever managed to collect them all. I think they stopped minting the decimal 1c coin some time ago.
Oh, man, that's exactly what I'm doing. Now this is collecting. This is a hobby, now. Very well done, friend. Keep it up.
Oh man, there are so many of those tokens. I don't think I could afford those either! Yea they stopped the one cent and two cent coin in 1992. When I lived there you could find a few every now and then but most aussie's don't like them.
You have a VERY nice collection. You should be very proud. I love pennies from all over the world. I especially love the toned Australian pennies. My all time favorite penny is the Canadian 1967 "Dove" penny. There is just something about that coin.
Nice coins Rooman9. I like the Aussie pennies too. I have manged to collect most of them, including the 1946, but I don't think I will ever own a 1925 or 1930. Here is my 1946....
Right now they are just stored in 2x2's in my collection. I want to get an album for them but I cannot find one anywhere! Or else they're a fortune. I don't think Dansco has made any for a while. This is a huge part of what I collect and I want to be able to store it correctly.
According to the Dansco website, the shilling and florin albums are available right now, but the penny album's out of stock. Shouldn't be a very long wait if they're in production. Call and ask, there's a toll-free number on the website.
