I have always boiled the coin in distilled water first to remove glue and tape issues.

 

Have you tried "White Spirit" its a pain thinner, soak 10 minuets and wash in warm water and dry. If the sellotape is left on it will bleach the coin, particularly copper

WD-40 is basically fish oil. It is great for freeing rusty parts, but not good for long term storage as the propellant evaporates and leaves only the sticky oil behind. The name refers to "Water Displacement 40th compound tested". People like to use it for cleaning guns, which works well, but it leaves an undesirable residue behind.

90% alcohol. I can't stand when a seller tapes a coin. Acetone has never worked for me, alcohol has.

Here in Australia we find that Eucalyptus Oil works well at removing the remaining glue from sticky tape. It doesn't seem to affect anything else but, of course, won't remove any oxidation or damage to the metal due to some glues. You cover the glue residue, leave for a while, then rub off with a soft cloth. If the glue is very old more than one application might be needed.
I'm not sure if it is available over there but it is reasonably cheap and (I think) wouldn't cost much for a small bottle to be sent over.

I use hexane, which I used also to remove the adhesive postage stamps from mail for my son to use in art project. It evaporates rapidly, and when it does, the label becomes sticky again. Test a little in an area of the plastic that is not too obvious in case they changed the plastic from my old slabs. Use in a non flame , ventilated area.

 

It is fish oil made from manhaden known here in the mid Atlantic as a bait fish.
Works well on cleaning guns too.

 

Also great for arthritis I hear!

After removing stickers from a bedroom door,there was always glue left behind,a little trick my mam told me was to use mayonnaise. It worked.
Please take note.I have NEVER tried this on coins and do not know what effect it would have.I just know it removes glue from certain surfaces.

 

After some of these suggestions I might as well say "kill it with fire!"
