Does anyone have any experience with this company or there slabs? My wife purchased this for me as a gift. I've never seen any of there slabs before. So I was wondering what you guys think and what kind of value would you put on the coin?
To be honest, I've never heard of that company, but judging from the condition of the obverse, I figure they're just another of the bottom feeders who prey on people like your wife. I hope she didn't pay too much for it. The coin wouldn't grade 64 on it's best day, but we'd need to see the reverse to give an honest opinion. Chris
I believe that what you have is known as a Basement Slab. A "basement slabber" is a conman who makes "basement slabs." They slab their own coins in Coin World slabs or some other type of crude holder, sticks on a sketchy label printed out of a low-quality printer, printed with an amazingly high grade for the coin it describes, and sells on eBay for ridiculously high prices for unaware beginning numismatists. Such as the Julia Patman Coins seller on Ebay.
But, realize that there is not much difference in value for tht date from MS-60 to MS-64. Therefore, no big deal. That said, it isn't overgraded as much as some do, at least it does look unc
Here Is a photo of the reverse. I kind of figured it was a unknown or less known slab that was over graded. She didn't pay much for the coin I believe 15-16 bucks . Do you guys believe it was even worth that ? I didn't wanna seem ungrateful but soon as I saw the name on the slab I was afraid she had over paid for a coin that more than likely was over graded thankfully it wasn't over 20 bucks.
It was a thoughtful gift from your wife. That alone is worth so much. Keep it and remember it. It's a nice coin so don't worry about it much. Hug your wife and be thankful!... Just let her know to look for the following TPG's slabbed coins next time NGC PCGS ANACS ICG
Thanks pattyman that is very true. It is the thought that counts and even though the coin isn't a top name slab I'm still happy with it. Thanks everyone
I believe it is worth slightly less than its bullion content. The bullion content is currently $2.41, but these 40% halves are often bought and sold at discount because of their low percentage of silver. I'm being serious.
That's a recent new Fly-by-Night basement slabber that I have never seen before. Got a picture of the back of the slab?
