What happened to the artistry shown by our coins of the 1900's through 1940's? Are there no designers like St Gaudens around anymore. I can't believe our entire country is this devoid of talent. I don't know if my eyes are deceiving me, but to me, this looks like something an elementary grade child might design. There is just nothing that I find appealing about this. This is really the best we can do as a country? Tell me it ain't so. Please! (Honestly this almost looks like the Mint designers said, "Let's design the ugliest most unappealing coin possible and see if anyone says anything" (like some sort of twisted joke).
What happened to modern coins is "Cad Cam"...... It makes things a lot easier to design/replicate/produce on a large scale and also ruins the art. http://www.autodesk.com/solutions/cad-cam
I've been using my AutoCAD since 1995. I love designing houses, bars & poolrooms with it. It's just a hobby, though, because I've enjoyed drafting and mechanical drawing since 7th grade in 1960. Chris
That has the worst obverse ever for a nickel. Is it even Jefferson anymore? Where did he get that hair cut?
