    More US Mint garbage, IMO.

The recent supposed "low mintage" stuff will never be hard to find in my lifetime -- which doesn't mean you can't collect them. But, they do nothing for me. If ever my opinion changes, I'll just buy one at that time once all of the hub-bub dies down and I can find them anywhere I'd like at near original issue price. ;)

I agree 100% I think it is about time the United States Mint did such a thing. people should take pride in their currency just a they do with their country. Currency is a great way to symbolize said currency.

probably more likely to get them below issue price unless there is gold or silver content within the coins.

Why not use the very people who designed our coinage for the new types.........Saint Gaudens, Weinman, Fraser, etc.

I feel like that would be a step in the wrong direction...coin collectors would appreciate them, but would most Americans even know/care who Augustus St. Gaudens was?

My feeling is that the subject matter of our coins and currency is moot if the designs lack inspiration... Portrait, words, numbers. Portrait, words, numbers. No interesting shapes, plain fonts, lots of negative space, low relief. Rinse, wash, repeat.

    You sorta prove a point.

Only coin collectors care enough to look up who designed the coins. Even so our coins need symbols of freedom instead of long dead presidents.

Sheesh. I got one of those buffalo commems in OGP for 25 dollars at a antique market. I didn't even consider keeping it then, although it looked pretty. Too much demand in my opinion for such a common coin, had to sell it. Sold it on ebay for around 150.

Wow! The “walker” crowd appears to be dominant here – I didn’t realize so many knew how to use a computer. So, if you all have a leg to stand on (no pun intended), how do you explain all the super low mintage special issues over the last 20 years that have done very well? Are these issues going to crash & burn even further down the road?

Yeah like the state quarters duh! Sold on every late night TV channel world wide, sold in every fashion one can imagine , sold gold plated, sold colorized , sold to people whom were taken by hype , over minted . Yeah my offer on any state quarter would start at 12.5 cents.
It will be over a hundred plus years before most any modern coinage starts to increase in any true value.
And the type coinage will still increase even more out performing the modern stuff over and over again.

Why will it take along time for the value to increase?

Most Americans couldn't identify the presidents on the current coinage, and most of it has been around for 50-100 years. You've failed to make your point.

I don't think that's true. They're all famous presidents everyone learns about in middle and high school
