If I sell something on EBay and I have to give a refund for any reason, EBay adjusts the charges automatically. As for PayPal, if I give a refund they charge a small percentage of the fee. This is just an example. If I give a refund for $2.00 PayPal will charge me .06 cents. The reasoning I see is because they're providing a service and you have to pay either way. Since it's a refund they're not getting their full commission.

You need to go back and reread that line. If you do, you will find for a $2.00 refund, they only took $1.94 from your account. The buyer received $2.00 by your contribution of $1.94 and PayPal's contribution of $.06 from their fees.

Some sellers on Ebay are just shady from what I learned.
I had some issues withe a moderator over at another forum, under their e-commerce section because a seller sent completely different Mercury dimes than in their listing even know they said what is pictured they would send. I was at fault for having a problem with it along with the sellers attitude about it. This same moderator is over there posting "problem buyers" to block and he had the nerve to call me one because I expect to be sent what was in the listing. Of course some members had the same attitude but definitely not a good idea to discuss any purchase with a bunch of Ebay sellers, they will sometimes side with the seller no matter what. Nor a good idea to discuss selling with them.

. Some sellers are really good with that and others are just shady and breed contempt. No wonder they get so many "problem buyers" while good sellers get so many repeat bidders and their prices go so high.

Not that I am without fault, I screw up. I fix the problem first and if the seller will return the coin, I appreciate it.

I think on a coin forum or any forum of collecting, shady or problem sellers should be brought out. The buyer should not be put at fault. Especially if the person doesn't send what he is supposed to. I had a great thing happen to me today. I purchased 3 Ike dollars that were pop outs. The picture wasn't that great and the seller stated that they were real. When I received the coins they were pot metal, copper plated than chrome plated. Who would think they would fake a lousy pop out coin especially an Ike? I contacted the seller and received a full refund plus told me to keep the coins. I expected to get what was in the listing. If you don't, then the buyer isn't at fault. On top of that the seller has the coins listed.

@john59 there are a couple of things that might be happening. If you click "refund" via PayPal, then you should not be paying any fees. You can even do a partial refund that way, and partial fees will be refunded. But if you're outside of the standard (I think it's 30 day) window, and you "send funds" and call it a refund, then yes, you have to pay fees.

Anyhow here is the results of the issue. I called support, they said finding for the seller was an error, since there was a return still pending. They put the case on hold for several days till the return reached the destination and appealed the decision on my behalf. When the seller refused the return, I called support and they issued me a refund and reversed the decision. Escalations recommended reporting the seller so I agreed to. Very odd, they told me they would issue me a full refund and the sellers return policy said it could be returned and they have hassle free returns even though in the description it says no refund. Obviously they are trying to get to top seller status but do not want to follow the rules for this on all listings. He should not have refused the return, he could resell the coins and not like I can refuse it again.

Exactly. I've seen this several times (seller checked the "14 day returns" box, but says "no returns" in the description); I've never bid on such an auction, but if I found one I wanted to bid on, I would ignore the "no returns" part of the description and count on the "14 day returns" that the seller specified.

Yes, I requested a return, it was accepted automatically and was given a return shipping label. After getting a message from the seller, I told him my issue and he said he would refund me as well. So not only does his policy lists returns accepted, he told me he would refund me. I won on appeal, I don't know what he was doing rejecting the return. It is being sent back to me.

In a case like this -- where you've followed the letter of eBay's policy requirements, eBay has refunded your money, and the seller has rejected the return -- I would enjoy my free coins with an entirely clear conscience.
