How about this very old Brazilian coin?

It's a Brazilian 1734 10 Reis that looks like it was struck off center from where the design was supposed to be. So there is extra blank material along half of the coin's circumference and the other half is missing some of the design...not sure of the technical term for this.

It's kind of a brownish mustard color so I guess it might be mainly copper. Don't have a picture 'cause I haven't bought it yet. It looks really cool and I'll probably buy it even if it has little monetary value.

It sounds like an off-centre strike. When the coin arrives, you will have to post some photos?

How's it over there in Vancouver? It is a fine, but very cool day here in Wellington,New Zealand.

Have you found any good coin & banknote dealers over your way?

    Aidan.

    Hi Aidan

Actually I'm in Santiago, Chile at the moment on vacation. It was hot today, around 30 degrees C, but the afternoon and evening coo down quickly as the Fall season is beginning here.

There is a good dealer in Vancouver called J&M Coins and Stamps. The department store "The Bay" has a coin department at their Georgia street location and even has auctions for stamps, not sure about the coins, though. I just started collecting again while down here so I have to get re-acquainted with Vancouver's scene when I get back.

New Zealand is a country I'd like to visit. How old is the earliest currency from NZ?

Colectus Coinus, have you found any good coins in Santiago yet? New Zealand's first coins were issued in 1933.Prior to this,it was British coins that were legal tender, but Australian coins were also used, albeit, they never became legal tender.New Zealand does have an extensive traders' currency token series,as does Australia, the British Isles,& of course,Canada.

    Aidan.
