I'm looking to pick up some nice, chocolate brown AU/MS Canadian large cents. Anybody have references to some dealers who sell nice, quality Canadian coins?
here on cointalk... stldanceartist sells them but I am not sure if they are the grade you are looking for ? here's his link to his dealer site: http://benjaminallen.org/foreign-coins/
Yep, I already checked. The only thing he has right now that looks close to MS has way too much red on it. :/ I'm thinking of doing a matched set, maybe in an album, so the color is important.
Are you looking for "vanilla" coins or varieties? Just Vickies or the 20th century as well? Are you in US or Canada?
I got a bunch of Vicky's for 25 cents each, someone brought a huge load of them to my coin dealer which focuses in world coins so he put them in his 25 cent bin. (Not selling them at the moment though)
Great questions. Right now, I'm just looking to do a basic date and mint set, 1858-1920. I'm in the US.
One of the better Canadian coin dealers in the U.S. that I recently met at the Long Beach show is Barry Hughes in Tuscon AZ. Send me a PM and I will give you contact details.
Believe me, I do. eBay doesn't have the greatest selection of high-quality, brown large cents. Photos are frequently terrible, and I hate dealing with returns. Nonetheless, there are a couple coins I'm seriously considering bidding on.
Yeah, you never know what will be up on ebay and it's not the easiest to avoid all the problem coins.
Just wanted to add, I am totally willing to deal with people in Canada as well, as long as they're reputable and have nice coins.
Colonial Acres Coins www.colonialacres.com These guys always sold me great pieces at reasonable prices. Based in Canada but the shipping to the States is quite reasonable. I hope you find something you like.
