Well, it took 5 tries with the site on the verge of crashing, but I got in my order of 5 sets. I paid for overnight shipping, so hopefully they'll be here in a jiffy and I can get them off to NGC. Anyone else order yet, or have any issues with the site?
I thought for sure I would get ahead of the US Mint site crashing today and place my order right at the stroke of noon (9am here), but to no avail! Forgot they would ask for the CC security code and had to run for my wallet :-( By the time it was typed in and I hit "checkout" the rush had begun. The next page was an "Error, Page not found"......after about 10 minutes of retrying, my order went through! Bought 5 of the 3 coin sets, just with standard shipping Order #USM03195xxx
I also ordered 5. I had planned to order 5 seperately so I'd have 5 unopened boxes, but after 3 or 4 failed attempts, decided to shoot the whole nickel when it finally went through!
I placed 2 orders 1 for me and 3 to flip Just had a problem in the checkout but my orders are placed. Mine ship to a PO box so it will be awhile before I see them
I also ordered 5 sets right at noon. All went smoothly for me and my order was placed at 12:03pm. As of 12:30pm, the set was already backordered.
Ordered 3 sets at 12:53 ECT and another 2 at 12:59 with no problem getting through check-out. According to my two order numbers, in the 6 minutes that had elapsed, 418 additional orders were placed...some perhaps for other products. Both are backordered with an expected ship date of August 13.
I bought a couple of sets. Never could get past the last confirmation page on my computer though. Tried their mobile version on my phone and made it right through in less than a minute.
So when they say this is backordered, do they mean they are waiting to see if orders are cancelled or returned and then ship to additional customers who are on backorder?
Well, yes, but in this case it means that they've sold out of the products which had already been minted. For instance, they probably had 10,000(?) or so struck in advance and once the orders have exceeded that number they will put a "Back Order" on the page. So there will be plenty more in the coming months, but the first batch is gone.
@Travlntiques Thanks. I wasn't sure if they were all gone or what. I know they had a limited mintage of 75,000.
Well I'm glad I got in on this. I sold 4 of the 5 I ordered on eBay and made more than enough to keep 1 for free and to have made a little money on the rest.
Flip what? These sell for $95 on ebay, after paying $12 in taxes and $6 in shipping you make a whopping $10 a set?
Well a free set plus an extra $50.00 in my pocket for 20 minutes worth of work sure isn't bad.. It's much better than the guys on eBay paying $95.00 per set.
Bought two - I work in the U.S. for a Canadian company and internet runs through a server in Canada even though I'm sitting in Denver (My Google site is the Canadian version). No crash issues here. Two sets are on their way.
That's if everything works out perfect. If you receive a damaged set, scratched coin, or deal with a bad ebay buyer, or your order from the mint gets delayed, all your profit is gone.
