This looks like a Kuwaiti armed forces table tennis tournament medal of some sort.Perhaps it was done under the auspice of the Kuwaiti Olympic Games Committee. Welcome aboard. Aidan.
A MEDAL : "STATE OF KUWAIT KUWAIT ARMY" and in Arabic "DAWLAT ALKUWAIT ALJAISH ALKUWAITI" no denomination. It is not listed in Krause.
And I have always thought that "coin or medal" means, well, coin or medal. Interesting symbol(s) in the center of that piece though ... Christian
No catalougues for medals, unfortunately, just too many of them. I would say around $40, depending on how many were minted....
These medals were recovered from an Iraq bunker near An Nasariya by members of the 319th AFAR, 82D Airborne Division during Operation Desert Storm. I believe they were taken by the Republican Guard during the invasion of Kuwait. I believe they are Kuwait military olympics because Ive seen swimming, basketball, volleyball, and military obstacle course. There are gold, silver and bronze medals. Im not sure of the total numbers but i think there were about 100 of these coins recovered.
I am verifying the statement made by "Airborne", for I was in COLT team 1, HSB 1/319th AFAR, 82nd ABN. I remember we found the cache of coins in a box under the seat of an Iraqi utility truck while looking for weapons. I have in my possession a gold swimming coin. I had a silver and bronze, but traded the silver for a D-120 Soviet artillery brass shell casing ( Which sits in my man cave) and the bronze for a Soviet Makarov pistol. That got confiscated before leaving the Gulf. Would like to know the value of the coins also.
My husband was also their during the time that the coins were found and has three of them. All gold with 3 different military activities on the back. I was wondering if any one has found any information on them. We are unable to locate much online.
