Reverse proof presidential dollars!

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by TopcatCoin, May 1, 2015.

  1. The 2015 Coin & Chronicles sets will each contain a reverse proof presidential dollar available only in the set. Mintage for each set is 17,000, except for Kennedy set which will have a mintage of 25,000.

Looks like the mint is now trying to produce unique offerings within these types of sets based on hysteria caused by Native American dollar set last year. I may just have to get a few. What are your thoughts on demand or collectibility? TC

Might be a cool set to go with my Dewey defeats Truman newspaper

Is there no end to this????????????

With mintages that low, the initial household limit should be 1, but that would make it tougher for dealers to buy the lion's share of them.

Wish my grandfather had left me some MS bust and seated type coins.

I think the mint is realizing people really like these reverse proofs. I know I do.

That's even likely to develop into a collecting category of its own. A set of Reverse Proof coins from the silver Eagles moving forward

Not really, let him inherit the coins. They may wind up being worth a lot more than the $200 would have been.

Third paragraph of the article in the OP. Says they are all scheduled to be released in December. Just no exact dates yet.

Simple collecting times are long gone. In those "olden days," I wanted to know when the annual proof and uncirculated set would be issued, mail in my card and write the check. Commemoratives after 1981 added new interest and enjoyment. Silver Eagles were a wonderful addition.

There are so many permutations of American coins now, that I have to download and print the US Mint release schedule, checkoff what I have purchased, hold a want list online and consolidate orders in order to not miss anything. I also must order online in order to receive just one of some items or they are gone in a day or less.

More chances to pay for your collection by flipping the spares. I love these things!

And then after they publish the release schedule......they add more items that weren't on the list.

Yes indeed. These reverse proof dollar coins and the special Roosevelt silver dimes being issued tomorrow (May 4) are several examples.

I hope they increase the mintages or decrease the household limit to 1. Heck, even if you start your order exactly at 12noon EDT and you get the error message when trying to checkout, like happened with the MoF Set, they'll be sold out by the time you complete your order. I know the mint's word means nothing, but didn't they say they wouldn't create another fiasco like the 2011 ASE set?
