Hey guys. Ok could you please tell me what this error is? Is it a strike through? The D is "speared" the spear is raised and same coloring as the rest of the penny. What is something like this usually worth? Even though this isn't anything big...LOL I'm excited first error I've found yet! lol Thanks in advance for your help.
It could be a die gouge. If it is, I really have no idea on pricing...but it probably wouldn't be very much...maybe a few bucks.
I don't think it is thick enough to be a die gouge, I would think that those would be more die cracks than anything. Nice looking ones to. :thumb: But could be wrong. Awesome find. :thumb: Phoenix
Any idea on value??? 50 cents a buck maybe? I'm keeping it but would like to know for future refrence.
I'd go with a die gouge or a narrow die dent. If it's a blister in the plating, it should flex when gently pushed with the tip of a toothpick. You need to do this under a microscope.
I'd say die gouge just because of how straight it is and the absence of any other marks indicating plating separation. But do as mikediamond says and you will know for certain. Value for something like that is really objective and it's really worth what a buyer will pay (if anything). On Ebay maybe a dollar or two.
