Does someone have a photo of the date of a 1942 for comparison?

I don't think it is. The raised area appears to head toward the middle point of the 3. On the doubled die, it heads south of the point. There are some very good images of this die here:

Also, there is a known die with a die gouge in the area. I'm sure if you google it you can find images of the gouged one.

unless it looks like this I'm afraid not. Here is a close up of my MS65 1943/2 Jefferson. It has to have that fish hook barb if not its not . However check for the second image the 43 double eye variety. 1943 2.jpg 1943 ddo eye.jpg

Compared to a 42? Why? There's no comparison . It could be compared to a 43 but a 42 get you nothing.

A tool I always carry on my smart phone is free at Variety Vista . Com a complete guide to war nickels varieties . Just go to the site and down load the file. There are like 80+/- 1943 P , D,& S varieties alone.

How can anyone think that it's an underlying 2 without seeing what the 2 would look like? It's not rocket science.

If you knew the series you would! As looking at a 42 has no merit to what a 43/2 looks like.
