Me too, but decent examples are rare because the quality of minting was so poor during the later part of Gallienus' reign. And the "nice" examples, which aren't nearly as nice as average LRB's, go for pretty hefty premiums. Here's a panther I collected some years back - one of the better examples I've seen... But if you want centered, well-struck coins with full legends, forget about it. You can get, at most, two out of three.
Yeah well, you're in good company. Here's one of my average ones... This is actually a GOOD coin, as most everything's there.
Bing, It appears you went where I failed to go----Very cool selection!! Is that a hippo-camp (#1) and a centaur (#4) ?? Since I didn't recall those included among the 'zoo series', maybe a giraffe is among them too ??!!
No giraffe that I know of. Number one above is a gryphon and you are right about number four being a centaur.
No giraffes in the Gallienus series, sorry. The animals are associated with deities, so these are in fact, religious themes. I don't know of a Roman god associated with giraffes.
After Nero deified Claudius, they should have associated him with the giraffe. There has to be a posthumous Claudius-Giraffe coin out there somewhere. I'm sure TIF can do something with this.
